WTF?! New ‘Under One Roof’ Coming Up!
January 7, 2009 by Chandra
And next week, too! Talk about a show that won’t die that really, really, *REALLY* needs to.
Flavor Flav’s offensive MyNetworkTV “comedy” — and I use that term completely ironically — Under One Roof is like a super-atomic cockroach. Although it stinks to high heaven and then some, MyNet insists on airing repeat installments — and back-to-back double episodes at that, starting on February 4 — every Wednesday.
If this news isn’t distressing and terrifying enough, I just stumbled across the info that the network plans to give two new Under One Roof episodes a run this Wednesday and next at 9:30pm EST. I refuse to waste any effort trying to find out what they’re about, so let me just pass on that the one premiering tonight is called “Baby Beef,” and January 14’s is “Going Going Gone.”
On second thought, I kind of like the last title because that’s exactly what I’d like to see happen to this show. If only…
Question: Are there any Roof fans out there? If so, please drop a comment on this post and try to help me understand why anyone would voluntarily watch this “sitcom.”
Music to My Ears: MyNetworkTV Pulls ‘Under One Roof’
October 27, 2008 by Chandra
And here I was thinking it would never happen.
The announcement landed today: effective this fall season, MyNetworkTV is mercifully and wisely removing the abominable Flavor Flav “sitcom” Under One Roof from its lineup.
More welcome TV news has never been reported. Let us all be thankful the small screen will now be invaded by that many fewer stupid, stereotypical, useless characters and plotlines.
Under One Roof: Worst Sitcom Ever?
June 20, 2008 by Chandra
You know, at first it made sense to be forgiving with netlet MyNetworkTV since it hasn’t been in existence that long. One can only take so much, however, before it becomes clear that even forgiveness is no longer in order. As soon as the second episode of the ridiculously awful Under One Roof aired, that became the case.
The network’s latest original series, a supposed comedy, stars overexposed Public Enemy member Flavor Flav. Who knows what industry executive first had the “brilliant” idea to put the rapper in his own VH1 reality series, but I wish the buck had stopped there, with Flavor of Love.
If you’ve never had the displeasure of watching Under One Roof and you don’t believe it when people say how much it stinks, check out the latest episode right now, courtesy of Hulu. You can thank me later for warning you.

Under One Roof: 1.6 ‘Blacker the Berry’ Recap
May 21, 2008 by Chandra

Original Air Date: May 21, 2008
Although the show is still worse than atrocious, Under One Roof has improved a bit since I last tuned in. The change isn’t in terms of writing or the cast members’ performances but rather the degree of buffoonery — the actors have toned down their clownish mannerisms and facial expressions, though nowhere near enough.
Having admitted that, the show remains one of the most unfunny sitcoms ever in the history of the genre. I can’t even begin to imagine what MyNetworkTV execs are thinking when it comes to this series, and I hope to God they don’t renew it (but they probably will).
“Blacker the Berry” primarily revolves around the two Hill children, teenagers Walter Jr. and Heather. In the first case, housekeeper Sun Ho’s teenage niece Charlene arrives to visit while her parents go on a short trip to China for some “real” Chinese food. They don’t take their daughter along because, well, they can’t afford a ticket for her and the food, too.
Despite the sweet, innocent persona she projects, Charlene is actually a typical hormonal teenager, and she gets the hots bad for Walter Jr., to his tremendous, geeky dismay. The only problem is when Sun Ho catches Charlene getting too physical, Charlene lies that he’s the one putting the moves on her, and Sun Ho believes it. Walter Jr. eventually gets back at Charlene by luring Sun Ho into the kitchen while Charlene, unaware, gets fresh him with him yet again.

Under One Roof
Blacker the Berry: The Hills get new neighbors — a mother and daughter — and Mrs. Hill is forced to get tough when the mother turns Heather ghetto, or as close to it as you can get in their town. Just reading that description makes me cringe, so I imagine the actual episode will have a similar effect … just like all the other episodes that have aired thus far. [8pm EST/MyNetworkTV]
Boston Legal
Patriot Acts: The legal dramedy ends its fourth season with an episode about — yep, you guessed it — patriotism. Concord in Massachusetts decides to secede from the United States (best of luck with that!), Alan and Denny get into the Auxiliary Coast Guard, and then the two lawyers represent the opposing sides in the secession case. Good times! [10pm EST/ABC/Fourth-Season Finale]
Mind of Mencia
Episode 401: We don’t cover this show here at Comedy Centric, but the improv/sketch series Mind of Mencia begins its fourth season tonight. Check out a clip, a spoof of Indiana Jones, after the jump. [10:30pm EST/Comedy Central/Fourth-Season Premiere]

Under One Roof
Oh Brother: The Dallas Cowboys’ Terrell Owens guest stars — why, I don’t know. [8pm EST/MyNetworkTV]
Back to You
Chuck and Kelly, Doin’ It Again: Get your mind out of the gutter — the “doin’ it” in the title isn’t what you think! (Although maybe if it was, Fox wouldn’t have canceled the darn show…) [8:30pm EST/Fox/Series Finale]

Under One Roof: 1.3 ‘Cop Out’ Recap
May 1, 2008 by Chandra

Original Air Date: April 30, 2008
This will be quick since, as expected, the episode was neither funny (a typical “funny” comment was along the lines of “act like Dakota and get to fanning”) nor interesting (more buffoon-style acting was the main feature).
CALVSTER’s (or Calvester, as the network has decided to spell it now, but I’m too tired of making spelling corrections while they change the characters’ names every week to care) parole officer, a bendy, busty blonde named Candy who likes to make out with the ex-con, moves away. Consequently, Calvster gets a new parole officer who turns out to be KNOCK OUT, aka Officer Thomas, a big guy the Hill brothers know well since he was their bully when they were boys.
Officer Thomas got his nickname when Calvster lucked out one day and knocked him out in front of the entire neighborhood for picking on Winston. As a result, Knock Out left in shame, joined the Marines, suffered in an Iraqi prison camp, and returned to the States to become a police officer. Now he’s intent on making the Hill brothers’ lives a living hell as payback for Calvster embarrassing him so many years ago.
After Calvster’s attempt to beat up Knock Out and force him to flee again fails — Calvster gets his own butt kicked instead — the Hills and their maid SUN HO try to escape to Hawaii for a vacation they had been planning before Knock Out arrived. The cop intercepts them before they can leave, however, and threatens to plant drugs on anybody that doesn’t get hip to the program and start waiting on him hand and foot.
