The Bill Engvall Show: 2.8 ‘Dream Lover’ Recap
August 3, 2008 by Chandra
Original Air Date: July 31, 2008
Susan really takes her dreams seriously on this episode of The Bill Engvall Show, probably because, she claims, the last two times she had similar dreams, they came true. First her friend was left at the altar on her wedding day and then her uncle died of an unexpected heart attack.
The second past event makes Susan start pestering Bill to get a physical, and he eventualy does after a bit of resistance due to his fears of dying and learning something is wrong. On the other hand, her latest dream — Bill has an affair with a woman named Penelope — makes her believe her husband is going to commit adultery.
That superstitious reading seems to gather some traction when a woman named Penelope calls the house and asks for Bill. What Susan doesn’t realize is the woman is just a waitress, and she’s calling to inform Bill he left his credit card behind at the restaurant where he and Paul had lunch earlier. Desperate Paul is the one who’s really interested in Penelope, even after she informs Bill and Susan, who returns to the restaurant with Bill at his suggestion so she can see nothing is going on, that she’s engaged.
The Bill Engvall Show: 2.5 ‘Susan’s Best Friend’ Recap
July 14, 2008 by Chandra
Original Air Date: July 10, 2008
Yay! It looks like fans of The Bill Engvall Show can look forward to more of actress Cynthia Watros in the near future. I knew it was nothing but good when I learned she’d been cast for a guest-star appearance. Read on to learn why she’ll be sticking around (I hope and think) for at least another episode.
True to the series’ intentional family-friendly format, this one was another simply plotted episode: Bill becomes self-conscious about the state of his marriage when Susan’s free-living best friend AJ (Watros) pays the Pearsons a visit for the first time in four years. AJ arrives in her so-called vanabago — a cross between a van and Winnebago — after a split from her most recent significant other.
The bad blood between AJ and Bill goes all the way back to when Bill and Susan first hooked up. The friends used to pretend they were French to meet guys, and on Bill and Susan’s honeymoon, AJ tried to fix Susan up with a hot stud who was actually more interested in Bill. Bill is still smarting many years later over AJ’s obvious disapproval of the safe life he offers Susan.
Since AJ is the type of spontaneous, adventurous woman who likes to do unusual things, the kids love her. She even convinces Susan to go out Salsa dancing with her after 9:15pm one night, which is a time when Bill thinks only “drug dealers and jazz musicians” roam the streets. But when AJ informs Bill that his marriage is stuck in a “box,” Bill refuses to believe her.
The Bill Engvall Show: 2.4 ‘Pineblock Derby’ Recap
July 5, 2008 by Chandra
Original Air Date: July 3, 2008
This episode of The Bill Engvall Show features two main storylines: (1) When Bill is unable to construct a pineblock derby car for Bryan, Paul creates one as blackmail to get Bill’s support on the homeowners association so he can replace his lawn with artificial grass, and (2) Lauren schemes to prevent her new ultra popular friend Erica from hooking up with Trent.
It’s time for Bryan’s Leopard Scout troop to hold their annual pineblock derby race, and Bryan needs a car capable of beating his rival’s. Bill assures his son he can build one, but of course, he’s not actually skilled enough.
Paul realizes this when he stops by to visit and tell Bill about his plans to replace his natural lawn with artificial grass in order to get rid of bugs, which he hates. When Bill informs Paul he must first get approval from the neighborhood board for such work, Paul gets an idea.
He constructs a perfect car to replace the crappy ones Bill keeps building in exchange for Bill’s support. Bill doesn’t want to go along with the ruse, but when Bryan assumes Bill built the car and gets overjoyed, Bill can’t let him down either by revealing the truth.
The Bill Engvall Show: 2.2 ‘Ask Your Mother’ Recap
June 24, 2008 by Chandra
Original Air Date: June 19, 2008
Sadly to say, the second episode of The Bill Engvall Show this season was on the boring, unfunny side. Better luck next time.
The episode revolves around Bill’s sudden realization that his children always ask their mother Susan when they want to go somewhere or do something, although they don’t hesitate to come to him when they need money. Clearly, by not being at home all of the time, Bill is missing out on the details of his family’s life, which doesn’t sit well with him.
Bill sets out to correct the situation, only realizing much too late that his necessary absences as breadwinner — after all, someone has to make the money to pay for the Pearson’s nice, suburban lifestyle — have resulted in a lack of knowledge about who his children hang out with and what they do on a regular basis.
As a result, Bill can’t make smart decisions when they ask him for permission to do things. Worse, the Pearson kids begin to take advantage of their dad’s knowledge deficit, such as when oldest daughter Lauren easily gets permission to hang out with a girl her mother knows is a shoplifter, simply by lying to her dad that she always hangs out with her.
Exclusive Interview: Being Bill Engvall Is Pretty Good Right Now
May 13, 2008 by Chandra

After the family sitcom The Bill Engvall Show premiered on cable’s TBS in July 2007, the network and the comedy’s cast and crew were no doubt thrilled about the popularity it quickly gained. The series is heading our way again this summer for a highly anticipated second season that starts on June 12, just a few weeks after the DVD set for the first season is released on May 20.
Comedy Centric recently received the opportunity to interview series star Bill Engvall, whom most fans probably know best through his standup comedy work and membership in the famed Blue Collar Comedy group. As the following Q&A reveals, the comedian-actor is understandably proud of his current TV show, especially its appeal to different age groups.
Read on to learn what’s happening with Engvall and his self-titled series, which also stars Nancy Travis (Becker, Almost Perfect), Jennifer Lawrence, Graham Patrick Martin, and Skyler Gisondo as his TV family, in addition to Steve Hytner (Roswell, Seinfeld) and Tim Meadows (Saturday Night Live) as his friends. There’s also an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip for the sitcom at the end.
You’re coming up now to Season Two of The Bill Engvall Show, which you co-created. How has the show evolved since it started?
Bill Engvall: Well, I think it’s longer and more refined. I think if you have a show for a while, it grows to be more in tune with what you want to do. We’ve taped three episodes so far, and they’ve been great.
