Greek: 2.2 ‘Crush Landing’ Recap
September 4, 2008 by Chandra
Original Air Date: September 2, 2008
As the so-called Senior Stockades and Crush Party roll around, the Cartwright siblings continue to experience their own fair share of difficulties on this episode of Greek.
If it isn’t Rusty seriously questioning his choice of major, super-nerdy Honors Engineering, when he grows bored with an advanced seminar in polymers, then it’s Casey stubbornly (and very slowly) processing her anger at Frannie for tonguing her ex Evan in public. Casey then must struggle with the realization that her latest potential lover is also Ashleigh’s long lost Hot Ness Monster from Spring Break.
Rusty does the right thing by consulting with older and supposedly wiser students like Cappie and his dorm’s new Resident Advisor Max (Michael Rady of Swingtown and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2) to figure out why he’s lost the interest in engineering that started at age 11 when he bought some miraculous Silly Putty. Cappie offers the brilliant — and spot-on — advice that maybe its time for Spitter to contemplate a new major that turns him on.
‘Office’ Star Jenna Fischer Shows Fans Her Love
August 1, 2008 by Chandra
I know it’s been a while and I don’t have a clip (damn you RedLasso for not warning beta members you were about to lock us out of our accounts!), but I do have a couple of photos from The Office star Jenna Fischer’s June 2 trip to David Letterman’s Late Show.
As the photos clearly show, the actress seems just as gracious and nice in real life as her roundly loved character Pam Beesly is on her NBC sitcom.
Take a look after the jump to see Fischer interacting with fans, signing autographs, and even posing with them as they take pictures for their own collection. I bet Fischer would be a lot of fun to hang out with for a day or two (or three).
My Boys: 2.1 ‘The Transitioning’ Recap
June 19, 2008 by Chandra
Original Air Date: June 12, 2008
Let’s get it over with right away: the guy PJ chose to ask along on her and Stephanie’s trip to Italy is none other than her fellow sportswriter Bobby. Now that the not-so-big-anymore secret is out of the bag, here’s what else happened on the very nice second-season premiere of My Boys.
Although PJ initially thinks Bobby shares her romantic feelings for him, probably because of such incredibly grand gestures as upgrading her seat to first class (do you know how much a first-class plane ticket costs these days?!), it quickly becomes clear that Bobby is just being a nice guy because he has the means.
PJ grows increasingly frustrated over Bobby’s lack of awareness, which is her fault since she refuses to be straight with him. Then when Stephanie breaks up with her boyfriend Lance after a night of fighting, the romantic twosome PJ fantasized about instantly becomes a friendly threesome, thanks to Bobby’s invitation to Stephanie to stay with him and PJ in his family’s villa for the remainder of the trip.
Back in Chicago, the rest of PJ’s boys are clueless as to where Bobby has gone, and they’re worried after not hearing from him in a day, although none more than poor Kenny, who’s obsession with Bobby’s whereabouts and safety is a whole lot more than odd.
When the guys aren’t busy noting Andy’s recent extravagant purchases now that he’s a bigshot lawyer, Kenny continues fretting about Bobby, Brendan complains about a threatening format change on the horizon at his radio station (they’re abandoning hard rock for soft rock), and Mike becomes determined to sleep with Crowley’s waitress Teri.
The Bill Engvall Show: 2.1 ‘But, That’s Not Fair’ Recap
June 19, 2008 by Chandra
Original Air Date: June 12, 2008
One notable trait of The Bill Engvall Show is that the series’ emphasis on family-friendly plots makes it extremely simple to recount what happened.
There’s a lot to be said for such simplicity, too, in this day and age when “edgy” reigns on the tube. In that respect, I admire comedian Bill Engvall’s determination to carry on with his preferred style of comedy that’s appropriate for many age brackets rather than just one or two.
On the second-season premiere, two troubling situations cause dad Bill major grief. First, his three children have somehow adopted the attitude that they’re owed an allowance and all the other amenities that come with having middle-class parents, such as shelter and food, just because they were born.
So, when Bill asks them to clean out the garage and they huff and puff and do everything but that, Bill gets angry and takes away all the previously mentioned amenities — including light — until the kids wise up and decide to get with the non-spoiled-brat program.
Of course, they put up a great wall of resistance at first. Yet soon the need to text somebody and eat dad’s eggs intervenes, and they reluctantly do what they were asked to earlier. It takes a night of deprivation for that to finally happen, however, and that night turns out to be one of the longest of Bill’s life.
Guess Who’s Coming to ‘Samantha Who?’
June 18, 2008 by Chandra
According to TV Guide, which has it according to its former resident gossip hound Michael Aussielo, Men in Trees star James Tupper has signed on for at least three episodes of Samantha Who?, slated to air during the upcoming second season. Tupper has already started filming the first episode this very week, in fact.
Of course, the actor will be playing a potential love interest for Christina Applegate’s title amnesiac because what other uses do attractive men of a certain age have on a sitcom about an attractive single woman of a certain age?
In addition, the character’s name is reportedly Owen, and we know he’s filthy rich since he’s described as a philanthropist, otherwise known as a person with enough money to give it away, unlike the rest of us plebes who make up the remaining 99.9 percent or whatever of the population.
Reno 911!: 5.13 ‘Wiegel’s Dad Returns’ Preview
June 18, 2008 by Chandra
On “Wiegel’s Dad Returns,” the next episode of Reno 911!, exactly what the title says happens, and it turns out that Papa Wiegel, just released from jail, loves the strip clubs almost as much as Wiegel’s colleagues in the Sheriff’s Department.
But before the network airs the episode, Comedy Central wants fans to take a look at the following clip featuring Lieutenant Dangle and Deputy Junior as they try to take down a Thai hooker ring masquerading as a fast-food delivery joint.
For some reason, “You want some hoochie with that?” simply doesn’t have quite the right ring to it…
Reno 911! airs Thursdays on Comedy Central at 10:30pm EST.
My Boys: 2.2 ‘Dinner Party’ Preview
June 17, 2008 by Chandra
Coming up on this week’s June 19th episode of My Boys, “Dinner Party,” Stephanie really and truly has finished her relationship book (Dang, that was fast!), and not one, not two, but three publishers are eager to acquire it.
Of course, all of the quick attention makes her even more self-confident than usual about her wisdom, and Stephanie advises PJ to throw a party for single people in order to find the guy for her. PJ agrees but comes to regret that decision sooner rather than later, although Kenny has a swell time.
A preview clip for the episode follows.
My Boys airs Thursdays on TBS at 9:30pm EST.

Comedy Talk: Kevin Nealon Visits Chelsea Handler
June 16, 2008 by Chandra
As fans know, the fourth season of Weeds kicked off tonight at 10pm EST, and star Kevin Nealon did his part last Friday to help spread the news far and wide by visiting Chelsea Handler’s E! chat show Chelsea Lately.
Surprisingly enough, after an initial clip from the Showtime series before the Saturday Night Live veteran walked out, Nealon and Handler proceeded to talk about little else besides his daddy status.
Nealon has even written a book about his late entry into fatherhood — last month’s release Yes, You’re Pregnant, But What About Me? — and he shares a few funny details about having his first child at … wait for it … 53.

Lifetime Announces New Original Sitcom ‘Rita Rocks’

One of the best pieces of television development news last week came from basic cable’s Lifetime. The network that prides itself on its programming geared towards women announced the pickup of its first original sitcom in ten years, a half-hour comedy called Rita Rocks.
The series is slated to premiere this fall and will star Nicole Sullivan (Kim Possible, The King of Queens) as title character Rita Clements, a married working mother of two daughters who attempts to regain her youth by returning to her earlier happy days as a garage-band guitarist.
Other cast members include Richard Ruccolo (Joey, Two Guys and a Girl) as Rita’s husband Jay; Tisha Campbell-Martin (My Wife and Kids, Martin), a personal favorite of mine from back in the day, as post office worker Patty; and guest star Ian Gomez (Jake in Progress, The Drew Carey Show) as the Clements’ out-of-work neighbor Owen.
Lifetime will pair Rita Rocks with Reba in a new hourlong comedy block this fall.
