James Roday, Cybil Sheppard/Psych 3.16

Veteran actress Cybil Sheppard is so much fun as Shawn Spencer’s mom Madeline Spencer on Psych. So tonight’s Season Two finale “An Evening with Mr. Yang” should be extra yummy because she’s back to reprise her role.

Psych: ‘An Evening with Mr. Yang’ Season Finale Preview

February 18, 2009 by Chandra

James Roday/Psych 3.16

USA Network’s Psych closes its third successful season this Friday, February 20, with an episode dedicated to giving Shawn a too-personal taste of murder.

During “An Evening with Mr. Yang,” the fake psychic finds himself the target of the notorious Yin Yang serial killer, who disappeared years ago after eluding capture. Now the murderer is back, and s/he becomes determined to unnerve Shawn, taunting him just for the sheer pleasure of it.

Notably, TV icon Cybill Shepherd (The L Word) returns to reprise her role as Shawn’s mom Madeleine Spencer, and Rachael Leigh Cook (Robot Chicken, Las Vegas) and Jimmi Simpson (Late Show with David Letterman, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) also guest star.

Follow the jump to check out a sneak peek and promo for the episode. How do you say “false alarm”? Poor Shawn (and Gus).

‘Monk’ and ‘Psych’ Celebrate Friday the 13th

February 13, 2009 by Chandra

Great guest stars come to USA’s Monk and Psych tonight to help the shows celebrate the best time of year when it happens — Friday the 13th, of course.

Tony Shalhoub, Steve Valentine/Monk 7.15

Up first at 9pm EST on Monk’s “Mr. Monk and The Magician” is former Crossing Jordan star Steve Valentine. He plays a magician with the stage name The Great Torini who plays head games with Monk when the legendary detective suspects him of murder.

Justine Bateman/Psych 3.15

Next at 10pm is Psych with “Tuesday The 17th” and former Family Ties star Justine Bateman, who plays Victoria. Shawn and Gus get into all kinds of spooky weirdness when a childhood friend hires them to find a missing camp counselor who disappeared near their old sleep away camp grounds, which are now abandoned and seemingly haunted.

Follow the jump for promos for both perfectly timed episodes. And FYI: Although each show has been renewed for an additional season of 16 episodes, their current seasons end next Friday.

Watch ‘Psych’? Win Sweet Stuff

January 16, 2009 by Chandra

Psych Season Two DVDAs loyal fans know, USA Network’s Psych returned last week to finish airing its current third season.

Well, Comedy Centric thinks that’s something to get happy about, and to prove it, I’m giving fans the chance to be the one lucky winner of a sweet little prize package featuring the following show goodies: (1) Psych Season Two on DVD and (2) a Psych Pineapple Stress Toy.

To enter the giveaway, leave a comment on this post stating which character you like more — Shawn or Gus. I know — that’s so unfair making people choose. But, you’ve gotta give up a little for the free stuff!

The rest of the rules/details are pretty simple: Use a valid email address when commenting, only one entry per person is allowed, the prize package will only be mailed to an address in the United States, and the entry deadline ends at 11:59pm EST on Friday, February 6.

Good Luck!

‘Psych’ Premiere: Shawn and Gus Get Fishy

January 9, 2009 by Chandra

James Roday, Dulé Hill/Psych 3.10

Another midseason, another fun premiere from USA Network and its laid-back crime dramedy Psych. This time around, on “Six Feet Under the Sea,” the episode’s unique slant is Shawn and Gus’ investigation of the murder of a seal. Yep, you read that right — a seal, like the kind you find in the sea.

This is no ordinary seal, however. It’s famous Shabby the Sea Lion, and when Gus takes Shawn along to the mammal’s funeral, the fake psychic senses something is very, well, fishy.

‘Monk’ and ‘Psych’ Spread Some Holiday Cheer

November 28, 2008 by Chandra

Dulé Hill, James Roday/Psych 3.09Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, there’s only one better way than Black Friday to kick off the holiday season properly: with the now traditional year-end return of USA Network’s Monk and Psych for their respective crowd-pleasing midseason holiday specials.

First up is Team Tony Shalhoub at 9pm EST, who bring us “Mr. Monk and the Miracle.” Neither Adrian Monk nor Captain Stottlemeyer believes in miracles, until a little intervention from fate.

In the case of the OCD detective, he decides to take on an inspiring mystery involving the murder of several homeless men’s friend, courtesy of Natalie’s intervention. And Stottlemeyer experiences renewed faith when a fountain at a monastery appears to get rid of his chronic pain.

Following at 10pm EST is Psych and “Christmas Joy.” Shawn and Gus’ title happiness over supposedly saving Christmas is almost ruined when the mall Santa they help a young girl get out of jail turns out to be a common con artist, as is the child.

MONK & PSYCH Midseason Finales Tonight

September 12, 2008 by Chandra

Tony Shalhoub/Monk and James Roday/PsychHeads-up to uninformed fans. As the Fall 2008 season shifts into full gear, both Monk and Psych will air their midseason finales tonight, signaling the end of their summertime runs. The series are currently scheduled to return one more time this year with fresh stuff on Friday, November 28, for their now traditional holiday episodes.

Meanwhile, today at 9pm EST, USA Network will present “Mr. Monk Gets Hypnotized.” When Adrian undergoes hypnosis as a new form of therapy, he suddenly begins acting like he’s nine years old again. Hopefully, the regression will help him solve the main crime.

Or, perhaps the show will take a week off since the kicker on last week’s hallmark 100th episode, “Mr. Monk’s 100th Case,” was that the detective actually solved two crimes instead of one. That amount put him at 101 cases solved, an odd number he can’t very well retire on, as he wanted to do when he thought he had reached an even success rate of 100. Richard Schiff, formerly of The West Wing, guest stars.

Then, at 10pm, Schiff’s fellow West Wing colleague Gary Cole guest stars, along with Spin City’s Alan Ruck, on the “Gus Walks Into a Bank” episode of Psych. Ruck plays a bank robber who forces Shawn into negotiation duties when he holds Gus and other bank customers hostage. Cole, on the other hand, plays the familiar role of a badass lawman, which is always all good.

WWE Diva Mickie James Slams Into ‘Psych’

September 4, 2008 by Chandra

Maggie Lawson/Psych 3.7Calling all wrassling fans!

Tomorrow night’s installment of Psych is a female-friendly, sports-driven episode called “Talk Derby to Me.” The main plot revolves around a perplexing series of robberies that cause Maggie Lawson’s Detective Juliet O’Hara to go undercover by joining a roller derby team. Check her out looking lean and mean in the top photo.

Although the lovely athletic ladies at the center of the action don roller skates — and lots of knee and elbow pads, I’m sure — to battle each other in the ring, the top-billed guest star actually hails from the world of professional wrestling. She is current Monday Night Raw WWE Diva Mickie James, who plays a character with the scary moniker Lethal Weapon (love the movie, too, by the way).

To help promote her first guest acting role on a scripted television show, Mickie kindly participated in an interview about her appearance earlier this week. After revealing that series star and huge wrestling fan James Roday (Shawn Spencer) requested her when he learned about the episode’s storyline (lucky woman!), the down-to-earth Diva talks about:

And the Winners of the MONK/PSYCH Giveaway Are…

August 7, 2008 by Chandra

Tony Shalhoub/Monk and James Roday/PsychThe results are in.

Two winners were selected at random for the Monk/Psych Giveaway, and they are:

Justin, who likes Monk and Psych because, unlike some other TV shows, they’re both well-written and well-acted series.

Stephen, who likes Monk because it’s a “pretty tripping show.”

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all who entered. This giveaway would not have been possible without the generosity of USA Network and Electric Artists.
