Coming to DVD: Forgetting Sarah Marshall
August 18, 2008 by Chandra
How I Met Your Mother fans, take note. Series star Jason Segel’s last big-screen movie, April’s Forgetting Sarah Marshall, is about to hit small screens, thanks to the September 30th DVD release from Universal Studios. 30 Rock fans can get psyched, too, since Jack McBrayer has a big role in the film also.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall stars Jason as Peter Bretter, a struggling musician completely in love with his TV-star girlfriend Sarah Marshall (Kristin Bell). After she dumps him and hooks up with a pretentious rock star (Russell Brand), Peter is forced to move on with his life. However, the situation isn’t helped when he takes a vacation to Oahu and bumps into Sarah and her new boyfriend vacationing there, as well.
Universal is going all out with the DVD release, offering both a special three-disc Unrated Collector’s Edition (includes the original theatrical version of the film plus an unrated extended version not shown in theaters) and a seven-disc Unrated Comedy Collection (includes the Unrated Collector’s Edition and seven-disc unrated special editions of The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up), in addition to the standard widescreen, full screen, and Blu-ray editions.
Movie Moment: ‘Mother’ Star Jason Segel in ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’

There’s a new Judd Apatow feature film — the world’s first romantic disaster comedy (hey, that’s their description, not mine) — heading our way on Friday, April 18, and it stars How I Met Your Mother fan fave Jason Segel alongside Veronica Mars and Heroes fan fave Kristen Bell. The name of the flick is Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
Here’s how the plot goes: Segel plays Peter Bretter, a non-famous musician, who’s totally, obsessively into his TV-star girlfriend Sarah Marshall (Bell), although she treats him like dirt. His resulting angst is inevitable when Sarah dumps him unexpectedly, and afterwards, he repeatedly fails to get his life back on track.
The upheaval eventually leads to a spur-of-the-moment vacation to gorgeous Oahu, where unlucky Peter learns Sarah is staying at his hotel with her new phony rock-star boyfriend Aldous (Russell Brand). Thankfully, Peter’s luck soon takes a turn for the better when he finally finds a new hookup of his own in unpretentious resort worker Rachel (Mila Kunis of Family Guy, Robot Chicken, and That ’70s Show).
I recently received a slew of still images from the flick to share with the world. Check a few out right now after the jump to see if Apatow and his co-writer Segel might be onto something with this “romantic disaster comedy” thing.
