Tina Fey Talks Sarah Palin with David Letterman
October 19, 2008 by Chandra
Tina Fey dropped by CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman last week to discuss lots of things, including, of course, her recent spate of Emmy-worthy Saturday Night Live appearances impersonating Alaska governor and U.S. Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
Yeah, the governor visited SNL last night and participated in two mostly unfunny sketches, but Tina’s chat with Dave is way better, not to mention Tina’s too-brief appearance during the opening of last night’s SNL.
Check out the relevant segment of the David Letterman interview after the jump.
Comedy Talk: Denis Leary Chats with Letterman
June 24, 2008 by Chandra
Rescue Me co-creator, executive producer, and star Denis Leary visited David Letterman’s Late Show last Friday to spark some interest in the FX series’ summertime minisode run starting up tonight at 10pm EST.
The pair of comedians did their usual wry thing, with Leary giving viewers an in-depth look into his life at the moment, which includes having to eat every three hours on account of his high metabolism, putting up with an annual “ass cam” — I’m not making that up, folks — now that he’s over forty, and coping with sending his eighteen-year-old son off to college this September.
The interview follows for the enjoyment of any and all. Love how Leary ends it by lying that the fourth-season DVD set for Rescue Me contains all kinds of extras, such as the series finale of The Sopranos and the superhero flick Iron Man.
Yeah right, Denis, and I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn with your name written all over it…
Comedy Talk: ‘Office’ Star Rainn Wilson Stays Up Late with Dave
April 10, 2008 by Chandra

Mega popular Office star Rainn Wilson, otherwise known as Dwight Schrute, took time out of his busy life and schedule in March to pay a visit to one of the best late-night yak shows around, the Late Show with David Letterman, of course.
I think Letterman, the crowd, and I were all about equally surprised to learn that the host is actually Wilson’s dad … or so Wilson claims when he says he nursed at the host’s “comedy teat” (does that create nasty images in your mind or what?). The revelation must have also been kind of awkward for Wilson’s biological dad, who was sitting right there in the audience.
Watch the video of the interview after the jump to learn more about the Rainn-Dave connection, as well as a lot of interesting things about Wilson’s earlier hobo days living in an abandoned Brooklyn beer brewery with packs of stray dogs all around. I kid you not — that’s what he said.
Comedy Talk: Top Three Reasons to Watch ‘Battlestar Galactica’ Season Four
March 20, 2008 by Chandra

As savvy fans of science-fiction TV already know, ten members from the cast of Sci Fi Channel’s stellar series Battlestar Galactica read the popular Top Ten list on the most recent Late Show with David Letterman.
The fourth and regrettably final season of the Peabody-winning space drama takes off on April 4, preceded on March 28 by two back-to-back half-hour specials. Fittingly, the theme of last night’s very entertaining segment was the Top Ten Reasons to Watch the New Season of Battlestar Galactica.
All of the cast members did a fine job delivering their lines, of course. The absolute best reasons to tune in to BSG’s fourth season were presented by the ladies, however. And, if you watch the show, that the women rock is not surprising in the least.
My personal favorite three picks from the Top Ten are:
- 3. Lucy Lawless (Cylon D’Anna Biers): You’ll find out what’s in the hatch and who gets off the island — Crap, wrong show
[Lost, anyone? — Top Ten #9] - 2. Mary McDonnell (President Laura Roslin): I take on the most challenging task of my political career — doing a lame top ten list on a third-rate talk show
[That isn't really a reason to watch BSG specifically, but it's still funny — Top Ten #2] - 1. Katee Sackhoff (Captain Kara “Starbuck” Thrace): We engage in a life-and-death battle against evil robots … you know, same shit as last year
[Tell me about it; but, at least this shit is captivating — Top Ten #3]
I’ve included a clip of the entire Late Show segment after the jump. And, as a bonus for comedy fans who love Battlestar, too, there’s also the eight-minute What the Frak Is Going On?! recap video that summarizes everything you need to know from the first three seasons of the series in video format. Enjoy!
Comedy Talk: Courteney Cox and David Reunite at Last
March 16, 2008 by Chandra

Did the “David” in the post’s title make you do a double take? If so, apologies.
Judging from their initial banter, it had been quite a long while since Dirt star Courteney Cox last visited the Late Show with David Letterman when she stopped by at the end of February to push her FX series. Years, in fact. Cox offered an excellent excuse, though — the birth of her and husband David Arquette’s daughter Coco, who’ll turn four years old in June.
Cox spends substantial time talking about her little girl during the interview, as well as her and her husband’s experiences working together on Dirt, which he executive produces and has also directed in the past.
Surprisingly, other than one anecdote about the couple’s difficulty shooting a kissing scene featuring Cox and upcoming recurring guest star Danny Comden (his first episode is next Sunday, March 23rd), there’s not much in-depth discussion of the series.
Still, it’s a good interview, and you can watch it all after the jump.
Comedy Talk: Lucy Liu Chats with Dave
January 8, 2008 by Chandra

Looks like the late-night talk shows resumed just in time to snag guests from the casts of the paltry season’s few new series. Cashmere Mafia fans are in luck today because star Lucy Liu has a date with Dave on the Late Show with David Letterman.
As her innumerable admirers know, Liu has enjoyed incredible success in both film (Lucky Number Slevin, Domino, Kill Bill, Charlie’s Angels) and television (Ugly Betty, Ally McBeal, ER). Don’t forget to tune in tonight to find out what’s been going on with one of entertainment’s most versatile actresses besides her latest ABC dramedy.
Tomorrow morning, you can also catch another famous actress who helmed a couple of classic comedy television series. Current L Word recurring cast member and former Cybill and Moonlighting star Cybill Shepherd will be on hand to talk shop with the ladies of The View, along with her talented L Word co-star Jennifer Beals. Flashdance, anyone? (And, yes, I still love that movie.)
Reminder: Late-Night Talk Shows Return Today
January 2, 2008 by Chandra

This is just a quickie reminder that as of tonight, Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Kimmel, Jay Leno, David Letterman, and Conan O’Brien will all be returning to their respective late-night talk shows to produce fresh episodes for the New Year. Although Ferguson’s Late Late Show will present a new installment with no guests, the remaining hosts will put on shows featuring an assortment of celebrities.
Tomorrow’s Late Late Show will have something to offer in the way of famous people, however, such as former Lost star Dominic Monaghan and magician Jason Randal. Meanwhile, over on basic cable’s Comedy Central, Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show and Stephen Colbert’s The Colbert Report are due back next Monday, January 7.
Keep in mind, too, that the quality of the individual shows is likely to vary as only Letterman and Ferguson have an agreement with the Writers Guild of America that will allow their writers to pen original material. I, for one, can’t wait to see how this fact will impact the overall entertainment value for viewers.
Here’s who’ll be occupying the other late-night couches tonight:
Jimmy Kimmel Live
- Helio Castroneves
- Andy Dick
- Kid Rock
Late Night with Conan O’Brien
- Robert Gordon and Chris Spedding
- Dwayne Perkins
- Bob Saget
Late Show with David Letterman
- Hillary Clinton
- Lupe Fiasco
- Robin Williams
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno
- Chingy
- Governor Mike Huckabee
Woot! Letterman and Ferguson Returning with Writers in Tow

Today’s breaking news comes just in time to infuse the weekend with loads of joy and anticipation. After finally striking an interim deal with the Writers Guild of America, Worldwide Pants, the production company that David Letterman owns, announced today that both the Late Show with David Letterman and the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson will return to the CBS airwaves next Wednesday, fully prepared and authorized to carry on as always.
Letterman expressed his understandable relief and appreciation with the comment, “I am grateful to the WGA for granting us this agreement. This is not a solution to the strike, which unfortunately continues to disrupt the lives of thousands. But I hope it will be seen as a step in the right direction.”
Well, the development is certainly a move in the right direction for the two CBS shows because only they will now be able to produce fresh material. All of the other late-night yakkers are forbidden to incorporate newly written content into their own shows since they have no similar agreement with the WGA.
And the strike havoc continues with a brief respite of exceedingly good news…
Bah Humbug: Still No Return Date for David Letterman
December 24, 2007 by Chandra

I hate to be a holiday spoilsport on Christmas Eve, but the truth is out there and must be reported. David Letterman’s production company Worldwide Pants failed to strike a deal with the Writers Guild of America when they met last Friday. The main purpose of the talks was to reach an agreement enabling Letterman and his fellow Worldwide Pants late-night host Craig Ferguson to return to the air soon with writers in tow creating fresh material.
Consequently, as of now, there remains no official guarantee that CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson will resume broadcasting new episodes in early January 2008 along with ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Comedy Central’s The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.
That’s not the end of the story, though. There’s some cause for optimism since both sides announced that their discussions will resume this week after Christmas. Better a late Christmas present than none at all.
