A Little Pre-Premiere ‘Gary Unmarried’
September 24, 2008 by Chandra
The time has almost arrived for the debut of Jay Mohr’s new sitcom Gary Unmarried, originally known as Project Gary. Mohr plays the title character, Gary Barnes, a recently divorced father of two seeking love and stability in his life, just like most of the rest of us. It’s not a particularly exciting premise, but a lot of viewers will probably relate to it.
Check out a pre-premiere behind-the-scenes clip after the jump. And, yes, that’s Al Madrigal of the short-lived CBS sitcom Welcome to the Captain from last winter visible for a split second. Here’s hoping his latest character, Dennis Lopez, isn’t as bizarre as that show’s Jesus was; the oddball quirks became a bit distracting.
Gary Unmarried: Series Premiere Details
August 19, 2008 by Chandra
Information about the pilot episode of Jay Mohr’s new CBS sitcom Gary Unmarried (formerly Project Gary) has been released by the network.
The big premiere date is Wednesday, September 24, at 8:30pm EST, following The New Adventures of Old Christine. Together, the two series will start a new midweek, hourlong comedy block on The Eye that will lead into a show that couldn’t be less funny if it tried, the often gory FBI procedural Criminal Minds.
On Gary Unmarried’s series premiere, the title character grapples with the news that his ex-wife is newly engaged as he tries to find someone to love himself. Not deep stuff, but good enough if it’s actually funny.

Behind the Scenes of ‘(Project) Gary Unmarried’
July 23, 2008 by Chandra
Saturday Night Live, Action, and Ghost Whisperer alum Jay Mohr has a new CBS comedy coming out this fall called Gary Unmarried, previously known as Project Gary until earlier this month.
The network recently released a video giving prospective fans a behind-the-scenes look at the show. It stars Mohr as a newly divorced father of two who braves the scary world of dating after fifteen years, only to quickly hook up with beautiful Jaime King’s single mother Vanessa. Don’t all average-looking middle-class dudes just wish real life was always that simple.

Name Change: ‘Project Gary’ Is Now ‘Gary Unmarried’
July 13, 2008 by Chandra
Jay Mohr fans might like to know that his forthcoming CBS sitcom previously called Project Gary has now been renamed Gary Unmarried. I admit the new title is a bit better, although it’s the content that will matter most when it comes to putting butts in seats to watch the series.
Gary is actually the second show to receive a different name recently. The other was the upcoming CW drama now called Privileged and formerly called Surviving the Filthy Rich, which makes me hope this kind of switching around isn’t an emerging trend. I already have a hard enough time keeping up with all of the series on TV; please, don’t make it any more difficult.
New CBS Sitcom First Look: Project Gary

The multi-camera sitcom Project Gary stars Jay Mohr (Ghost Whisperer) as Gary Barnes and Paula Marshall (Nip/Tuck) as Allison, a couple divorced after fifteen years of marriage who share custody of their two children. Their “politically correct and environmentally conscious” eleven-year-old daughter Louise is played by Laura Marano (Back to You, Without a Trace), while Ryan Malgarini (How to Eat Fried Worms) portrays their fourteen-year old “socially awkward” son Tom.
Gary, a painting contractor, finally re-enters the dating world and hooks up with single mother Vanessa (Jaime King of The Class), whom he meets when he’s hired to paint her apartment. Complications arise, however, when Gary learns his ex-wife is engaged to the ex-couple’s therapist, which encourages him to pursue his own form of happiness.
CBS ordered 13 episodes of the series executive produced by Ed Yeager (Still Standing) and Ric Swartzlander (8 Simple Rules). View a clip after the jump.
