Season Two of USA Network’s hit witness-protection dramedy In Plain Sight kicks off tomorrow night, April 19, at 10pm ET with the premiere episode “Gilted Lily.”

Although U.S. Marshal Mary Shannon (Mary McCormack) is on administrative leave due to the man she killed at the end of Season One, her sympathetic boss Stan McQueen (Paul Ben-Victor) allows her to trail along while her partner Marshall Mann (Frederick Weller) investigates his latest case involving a dead witness.

I’ve already watched the episode, which is fittingly downbeat and more talkative than action-packed to match the state Mary finds herself in after the disastrous events that closed the first season. Things do heat up as more episodes air, however.

It’s season finale time on the August 17 episode of In Plain Sight called “A Fine Meth.”

When the last episode of the dramedy’s successful first season opens, the Shannon family will be dealing with the stressful aftermath of the events from the previous installment “Stan By Me.” You know, that little kidnapping or two.

Mary will try not to lose her job over the whole crooked-family ordeal, but her efforts won’t be helped in the least when she’s caught in her own driveway carrying Brandi and Chuck’s suitcase full of meth. Let’s all wish Mary lots of luck holding on to her career after this “fine meth,” so to speak.

As previously reported, USA has already renewed In Plain Sight for a second longer season of sixteen episodes. Consequently, no matter how badly the finale might end, we know Mary — and the rest of the Shannon gang, most likely — will be back for more adventures soon. I personally hope her father shows up eventually, too, because he’s got a lot of explaining to do.

Things are going to become very intense indeed on the August 10 episode of In Plain Sight called “Stan By Me.”

Not only does heroine U.S. Marshal Mary get kidnapped, but so does her sister Brandi’s boyfriend, the ever mysterious and never seen Chuck in New Jersey. Somehow, the federal agents working on one case manage to connect it to the other one, and then a massive search ensues to track down both hostages.

I know why Mary is so important — she works for the government, too — but what’s the big deal with Chuckie? Everything up to this point has hinted he’s just another lowlife drug dealer, but maybe there’s something more going on there. Perhaps that’s why Brandi keeps playing fast and loose with his big suitcase of white stuff.

We know Mary will survive her ordeal (she’s the star), so tune in to “Stan By Me” to learn if Chuck ends up arrested, dead, or in WITSEC. Plus, we’ll also get to watch Jinx, aka Lesley Ann Warren, audition for a role in a local production of Sweet Charity.

Remember the terrified Ukranian accountant from the pilot episode of In Plain Sight? All she wanted besides protection from the people out to kill her was a pair of brand-new breasts. Remember?

Well, Natasha returns on the show’s August 3 episode “To Serge with Love,” and she learns a shocking secret: not only is she hiding out in WITSEC, but so is the brand-new boyfriend she has to go with her brand-new breasts. I don’t see why that would be that much of a problem, but I bet we’ll learn about one reason or two when the episode airs.

No sneak peeks have been released for the June 27 episode of In Plain Sight called “Good Cop, Dead Cop,” so this post will be brief.

On the episode, unwise Mary sleeps with a witness (Third Watch’s Jason Wiles, also known as Bosco, my favorite character from the series) shortly before he becomes a murder suspect, which makes me wonder what happened to her “boyfriend” Raphael. Is cheating some type of retaliation for him finally hooking up with her sister Brandi, will they officially break up (the writing has been on the wall for quite some time), or is Mary just being a very, very bad girl? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

USA Network recently announced some great news regarding the hit rookie crime dramedy In Plain Sight, which stars Mary McCormack as a New Mexico-based Federal Marshal with complicated work and personal lives. The series will return for a second season of sixteen episodes, scheduled to begin production in October.

Fans of the show can thank In Plain Sight’s fantastic ratings, currently averaging 5.22 million viewers overall each week, as well as the appeal of the cast. The series has also demonstrated consistent improvement since it premiered on June 1.

There’s been no indication when Season Two will premiere, but episodes will continue to be filmed in and around the show’s Albuquerque, New Mexico, setting.

Next up on “Don of the Dead,” the July 20 episode of In Plain Sight, U.S. Marshal Mary looks into a car accident. Sounds kind of mundane and out of her range of giving a frak, right?

It turns out the situation involves one of Mary’s witnesses, however, which means she has to determine if it really was just an accident or perhaps something more ominous related to the witness’ pre-WITSEC life. My vote is for the latter because otherwise the episode would be pretty boring and useless.

The July 13 episode of In Plain Sight is called “Iris Doesn’t Live Here Anymore,” and fans of the show should be excited because Mary McCormack, who plays lead character Mary Shannon, has called guest star Wendell Pierce her favorite guest star of the entire season. I’ve got big expectations now!

Pierce plays a doctor and the head of a family forced to enter the WITSEC program after his daughter unwittingly observes a gang shooting. As the following preview shows, the life(style) change proves extremely stressful for all of the family’s members. Will Mary be able to keep the ties that bind them together from completely disintegrating? I guess we’ll have to tune in to see, although I’m betting beforehand that the marshal will succeed.

On the July 6 episode of In Plain Sight, the grammatically incorrect “High Priced Spread,” Federal Marshal Mary discovers that a gambling problem is about to ruin the lives of her first witness ever, who has since become a college basketball star, and his brother.

Why that would be Mary’s problem, I have no idea, but she does have a way of getting all tangled up in her witnesses’ personal business, right? It’s par for the course, I guess.

Next up on the June 29 episode of In Plain Sight, which is called “Who Shot Jay Arnstein,” Er and NYPD Blue’s Sherry Stringfield guest stars as Beth, the wife of art dealer Jay Arnstein.

After insisting that both his wife and his mistress enter the Witness Protection Program with him in exchange for his testimony, the dealer is shot one night while under Mary’s care. The unfortunate event proves pretty traumatic for Beth, too, who not only learns about her husband’s lover’s presence for the first time that day, but becomes a prime suspect for the crime, along with the other woman. Now that’s a nightmare.
