Cybil Sheppard Returns for ‘Psych’ Finale

Veteran actress Cybil Sheppard is so much fun as Shawn Spencer’s mom Madeline Spencer on Psych. So tonight’s Season Two finale “An Evening with Mr. Yang” should be extra yummy because she’s back to reprise her role.
Psych: ‘An Evening with Mr. Yang’ Season Finale Preview
February 18, 2009 by Chandra

USA Network’s Psych closes its third successful season this Friday, February 20, with an episode dedicated to giving Shawn a too-personal taste of murder.
During “An Evening with Mr. Yang,” the fake psychic finds himself the target of the notorious Yin Yang serial killer, who disappeared years ago after eluding capture. Now the murderer is back, and s/he becomes determined to unnerve Shawn, taunting him just for the sheer pleasure of it.
Notably, TV icon Cybill Shepherd (The L Word) returns to reprise her role as Shawn’s mom Madeleine Spencer, and Rachael Leigh Cook (Robot Chicken, Las Vegas) and Jimmi Simpson (Late Show with David Letterman, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) also guest star.
Follow the jump to check out a sneak peek and promo for the episode. How do you say “false alarm”? Poor Shawn (and Gus).
Samantha Who?: 2.01 ‘So I Think I Can Dance’ Recap
Original Air Date: October 13, 2008
Goody for Sam! During the season premiere of Samantha Who?, our girl is on a high because she’s leaving her parent’s nest for the second time and returning to her own apartment. The only problem, as she quickly learns when she’s blissfully dancing around almost naked, is that she’s not alone because Todd is still there.
His last client, a bride, stiffed him on a wedding shoot because she didn’t like his work. So, it’s up to eager lawyer Andrea to, as she puts it, make the bride cry and kick him out of Sam’s apartment. She’s so thrilled at the prospect, she takes Todd’s case pro bono.
Meanwhile, Sam drops by her parents house for some last-minute forgotten stuff and finds them in the garage practicing for the Walnut Valley Club dance contest. The video of last year’s performance they’re practicing with is recorded over footage of Sam looking good dancing a Broadway routine during a long-ago recital. After she gets over the fact that her parents never bothered to give her the good news she can dance in the midst of their constant criticism, Sam gets pumped that she’s actually talented at something.
‘Samantha Who?’ Returns October 13
October 12, 2008 by Chandra
Christina Applegate has had a hectic summer, no doubt, which is why it’s impressive that her hit ABC sitcom Samantha Who? returns for the fall season tomorrow at 9:30pm EST. The first episode up is the sophomore season opener “So I Think I Can Dance,” which, as the title clearly hints, is a spin on all of those ridiculously popular dance shows that keep popping up like rabid bunnies.
During the premiere, Samantha and her mother Regina, played by recent Best Comedy Supporting Actress Emmy winner Jean Smart, team up to take on guest star Cybill Shepherd’s Paula Drake and her Dancing with the Stars partner Mark Ballas (playing Mateo) in a sitcom dance competition unlike any other. There’s only one hitch, and it’s major: one of the things that Samantha somehow forgot as a result of her retrograde amnesia is how to dance.
Take a look at a couple of previews for the upcoming season, as well as a refresher video overview of the first season, all after the jump.
Cybill Shepherd Coming to ‘Samantha Who?’
September 11, 2008 by Chandra
…or at least Samantha Who?’s second-season premiere, "So I Think I Can Dance," which is slated to air on October 13 at 9:30pm EST instead of the previously scheduled October 6.
Cybill Shepherd, who also joined the third-season premiere of USA Network’s Psych in July as the lead character’s mother, will play a rival of Samantha’s mother Regina (Best Comedy Supporting Actress Emmy nominee Jean Smart) this time around.
The two women combat each other during a dance competition, which Shepherd’s character Paula Drake intends to win by hiring Dancing with the Stars pro hoofer Mark Ballas’ Mateo as her partner. He, of course, won the last season of the unbelievably popular show with his figure-skating celebrity partner Kristi Yamaguchi, and he’ll appear as himself in the season premiere of Samantha, too.
Bring it on!
Psych: 3.1 ‘The Ghost in You’ Advance Review
For two seasons now, viewers have been enjoying the best-buds schtick between Psych stars James Roday and Dulé Hill, tempered with insight into why Roday’s Shawn Spencer acts the way he does, courtesy of those very special moments (much sarcasm intended) between the crime-solving fake psychic and his stern ex-cop father Henry Spencer (Corbin Bernsen). Since most things get old at one point, however, especially on television, it’s time to give the show’s fans more. Thankfully, judging by the entertaining July 18 third-season premiere “The Ghost in You,” Psych intends to do just that.
More what, you ask? Well, for starters, more Burton “Gus” Guster (Hill), as in a better look at what Shawn’s best friend and fellow non-professional detective does when he’s not busy playing second banana. We’ve always known that, unlike his lazy childhood pal, industrious Gus is actually a working man with a successful, full-time corporate job at a pharmaceutical company.
Yet, that employment security is threatened on “The Ghost in You” when Gus’ boss, Mr. Haversham (ubiquitous Christopher MacDonald), gets a whiff of his employee’s extracurricular sleuthing. The boss is more interested in the supernatural-flavored cases that Gus and Shawn have tackled, specifically the museum mummy disappearance from last season’s finale, which has made local headlines. Eager to rid his own home of a spook so terrifying it forced his wife to flee, Mr. Haversham makes a demand Gus had better meet if he doesn’t want serious upheaval in his career soon.
Sneak Peek: Cybill Shepherd on ‘Psych’ Season Premiere (7-18-08)
July 16, 2008 by Chandra
The third-season premiere of Psych is called “The Ghost in You,” and it’s less than two days away.
One of the biggest, most talked about developments coming up is the addition of TV icon Cybill Shepherd to the cast as a guest star. She’ll first show up on this Friday’s 10pm EST episode to play the previously unseen but oft-discussed mother of fake psychic Shawn. A successful criminal psychologist, she arrives in town to assist the Santa Barbara Police Department with a case.
I’ve seen the premiere already, and let me tell you, it’s so much fun watching Shepherd interact with the rest of the characters, especially Corbin Bernsen’s — another TV icon — grumpy Henry Spencer, who’s my absolute favorite person on the show by far. Every scene with him is a guaranteed hoot.
Take a look at the trailer for the premiere following the jump, and, as I mentioned in a previous post, also stay tuned for information about a great Monk/Psych giveaway launching at Comedy Centric soon.
Comedy Talk: Lucy Liu Chats with Dave
January 8, 2008 by Chandra

Looks like the late-night talk shows resumed just in time to snag guests from the casts of the paltry season’s few new series. Cashmere Mafia fans are in luck today because star Lucy Liu has a date with Dave on the Late Show with David Letterman.
As her innumerable admirers know, Liu has enjoyed incredible success in both film (Lucky Number Slevin, Domino, Kill Bill, Charlie’s Angels) and television (Ugly Betty, Ally McBeal, ER). Don’t forget to tune in tonight to find out what’s been going on with one of entertainment’s most versatile actresses besides her latest ABC dramedy.
Tomorrow morning, you can also catch another famous actress who helmed a couple of classic comedy television series. Current L Word recurring cast member and former Cybill and Moonlighting star Cybill Shepherd will be on hand to talk shop with the ladies of The View, along with her talented L Word co-star Jennifer Beals. Flashdance, anyone? (And, yes, I still love that movie.)
