Next on NBC: Chuck Versus the Third Season

May 17, 2009 by Chandra

Zachary Levi/Chuck

Oh, yeah! Variety reports that NBC has done one thing right in recent weeks and is poised to sign on the dotted line to give fan-favorite spy dramedy Chuck a Season Three renewal.

The pickup comes with the typical disclaimer about tighter budgets, lower ratings, and blah blah blah. Such details are customary nowadays as broadcast networks are forced to realize that, hey, most people have cable TV, too, not to mention computers, Internet access, iPods, DVD players, and so on and so forth. We are no longer your Nielsen slaves, dudes!

Excellent news about that Intersect guy, though, right? We knew it was just a matter of time, and since Fox stole NBC’s underdog thunder by renewing Joss Whedon’s barely watched sci-fi newbie Dollhouse just days ago, why not now?

Still, best 2009–2010 Peacock development ever, predictable or not. The only thing that could top it is if Life came back from the dead, as well. (Can you tell I’m still holding on to every last shred of hope for a little more sanity in the NBC Universal executive offices? Pass the series over to USA Network at least, for goodness sakes!)

Rumored NBC Renewals: Chuck, Parks and Recreation

May 3, 2009 by Chandra

Zachary Levi/Chuck

NBC is holding its second annual so-called Infront presentation in New York tomorrow, May 4, but there’s already lots of speculation on the entertainment Internets regarding which series will likely be renewed for another season in the wake of the dreaded forthcoming Leno in Primetime, All the Time era.

Two shows receiving strong favorable buzz are the new Amy Poehler mockumentary sitcom Parks and Recreation and sophomore spy dramedy Chuck. Yay!

Although My Name Is Earl, currently in its fourth season, seems like a prime candidate to send out to pasture, at least in many viewers’ opinion, NBC is reportedly negotiating to keep the karma comedy alive for a fifth go-round.

‘Chuck’ Season Two Finale: What the Chuck?!

April 27, 2009 by Chandra

Zachary Levi/Chuck 2.22

Episode: Chuck Versus the Ring
Original Air Date: April 27, 2009

Was “Chuck Versus the Ring” a fantastic season finale or what?

First, Life, then The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and now Chuck. Many of my current favorite TV series happen to be sophomore Bubble Shows, and they’ve all ended their latest seasons with a bang so huge, it makes you wonder how they came to be endangered in the first place. Or, rather, it makes you wonder why more viewers aren’t checking out such great television.

The “ring” in the title of tonight’s Chuck season finale has a double meaning. All of us fans were assuming it referred to the ring that represents Ellie and Awesome getting hitched, but it turns out there’s also a new wicked player in town named — that’s right — The Ring, and Fulcrum just happens to be a tiny part of it. Translation: there are more baddies on the way during Chuck’s third season (and I have no doubt the show is getting one), and they’re waaay badder than the baddies we’ve already met.

‘Chuck Versus the Ring’ Season-Finale Preview

April 26, 2009 by Chandra

Sarah Lancaster/Chuck 2.22

It’s almost Ellie-Awesome wedding time on Chuck finally, or is it? Hard to say from that utterly distressed look on Ellie’s face above.

Chuck Versus the Ring,” the second-season finale of NBC’s best (and only) spy dramedy airs tomorrow, April 27, at 8pm ET, and we loyal fans expect some nuptial action that has been in the making for quite some time.

Unfortunately, both Fulcrum and Chevy Chase’s evil Ted Roark have other plans that just might derail the anticipated ceremony before it even has the opportunity to begin.

‘Chuck’ Alum Scores New USA Network Dramedy

April 23, 2009 by Chandra

Matthew Bomer, Yvonne Strahovski/Chuck 2.03

Am I a happy TV comedy fan right now or what?!

USA Network officially announced some great news today with a press release detailing its 14-episode pickup of White Collar, an original dramedy filmed on location in New York and starring Chuck’s Bryce Larkin, better known in real life as actor Matthew Bomer (pictured at right above, with Chuck star Yvonne Strahovski).

Says USA’s Executive Vice President of Original Scripted Programming Jackie de Crinis: “‘White Collar’ is the perfect complement in our hot summer line up of character-driven originals that continue to draw loyal audiences to USA Network. The strength of the show’s lead characters, smart writing and crisp direction are key elements that we believe are the tentpoles of another compelling series.”

‘Chuck’ Wedding: Isn’t the Bride Lovely?

April 17, 2009 by Chandra

The wedding pictures are in, and doesn’t Chuck’s sister Ellie look absolutely stunning? I mean, aside from her thoroughly frustrated expression?

Sarah Lancaster/Chuck 2.22

Chuck Versus the Ring,” the big wedding episode — which also doubles as Chuck’s second-season finale — doesn’t air until Monday, April 27. Another new episode, “Chuck Versus the Colonel,” airs the preceding Monday, April 20. Yet, early finale preview photos show cast members all dolled up for the nuptials of Doctors Eleanor Bartowski and Devon Woodcomb.

‘Chuck Versus the Dream Job’ Preview

April 5, 2009 by Chandra

Chevy Chase, Zachary Levi, Scott Bakula/Chuck 2.19

Chuck Versus the Dream Job,” tomorrow night’s new episode of Chuck, is the big one, my fellow fans. Sure, it was great having Battlestar Galactica’s Tricia Helfer stop by last week during “Chuck Versus the Broken Heart,” but the latest adventures of the world’s only Human Intersect (I assume) will feature highly anticipated guest stars Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap) as long lost Daddy Bartowski and Chevy Chase as Ted Roark, Chuck’s new boss at his titular dream job.

Tricia Helfer Time on ‘Chuck’

March 29, 2009 by Chandra

ChuckTomorrow night’s fresh episode of Chuck is called “Chuck Versus the Broken Heart,” and it’s the one featuring Battlestar Galactica’s Tricia Helfer, of course.

Everybody’s favorite Cylon is back in the spy game, à la her recent guest stint on Burn Notice, as Agent Alex Forrest. The official episode synopsis describes the character as “heartless,” and she arrives on the scene to give Sarah a job review after Chuck chooses the wrong time to discuss his (in)tense relationship with his handler. And while that’s unfolding, annoyingly persistent Jeff and Lester do their best to infiltrate Devon’s bachelor’s party (and they succeed!).

Three clips follow the jump: the first is a sneak peek at sort of undercover Agent Forrest “entertaining” the guys at Devon’s get together, the second another sneak peek at Chuck and Alex playing doctor and nurse (explosions erupt), and the third a behind-the-scenes interview with Helfer for Entertainment Tonight in her home country Canada. Clearly, this is one of the most anticipated episodes of Chuck this season or last, and I predict it’s going to be very much worth the wait.

‘Chuck’ Faces a Predator Tomorrow

March 22, 2009 by Chandra

ChuckI really missed NBC’s Chuck during its one week off, so thank goodness the show returns tomorrow, March 23, with the brand-new episode “Chuck Versus the Predator.”

Even better, fans are now just one week away from the March 30 episode “Chuck Versus the Broken Heart.” That’s the one featuring the widely anticipated guest star appearance by Battlestar Galactica and Burn Notice fan favorite Tricia Helfer.

But first, on tomorrow’s episode, while our familiar Burbank-based Buy More crew takes on the posh Beverly Hills branch, Chuck not only has contact with the person who supposedly invented the Intersect, but he also must decide whether or not he wants to let that person attempt to remove the Intersect from his head once and for all.

Sure, Chuck has been jonesing for such sweet relief ever since Bryce Larkin rocked his world almost two seasons ago. I’m guessing, however, that the procedure would be much easier said than done, and that Sarah, Casey, and General Beckman might have something to say about it, too. Which people will Chuck trust, then, with his brain and his life?

Tune in tomorrow night at 8pm EST to find out, and take a look at the promo for “Chuck Versus the Predator” after the jump. Yes, that’s Tricia Helfer for a nanosecond in the clip dolled up in orange like Sarah, so I hope viewers get an early introduction to her intriguing character Agent Alex Forrest.

The Beefcake Returns on ‘Chuck Versus the Lethal Weapon’

March 8, 2009 by Chandra

Yvonne Strahovski, Zachary Levi, Adam Baldwin/Chuck 2.16

The last episode of Chuck, March 2nd’s “Chuck Versus the Beefcake,” was pretty good, although I imagine not so much for viewers who totally want Chuck and Sarah to hook up and stay that way.

If you missed it, English actor Jonathan Cake (Brideshead Revisited, Six Degrees) stopped by to play suave James Bond-ish English spy Cole Barker. During his collaboration with Team Chuck on yet another mission to foil yet another gaggle of devious Fulcrum agents, he not only hit it off big time with Sarah, but he also learned Chuck’s true identity as the Intersect.
