Twins on the Way for Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell

July 28, 2008 by Chandra

TV Guide's 5th Annual Emmy Party - Arrivals

People online reports a bit of nice news today for folks into celebrity babies. Ugly Betty star Rebecca Romijn, 35, and her husband Jerry O’Connell, 34, of the sitcoms Carpoolers and Do Not Disturb are expecting twin girls this winter, the first children for both. Congratulations!

And for those who’ve noticed and question the seemingly disproportionate number of twins born to actresses these days, the website makes sure to clarify that the “twins were conceived without the help of in vitro fertilization or the fertility drug Clomid.”

I guess it must be true since an unnamed source told them so, right? So, there you have it if you are/were wondering…

If you liked the recently canceled ABC sitcom Carpoolers, you’re going to love the April 28 episode of Samantha Who?. That’s because none other than Laird, also known as Jerry O’Connell in real life, guest stars.

He plays a supposed stranger that Samantha meets and promptly asks out on “The Gallery Show.” It’s soon revealed the two may not be so unknown to each other after all, however.

NOTE THE TIME CHANGE: On April 28, Samantha Who? airs on ABC from 9:38pm–10:38pm EST.

Carpoolers: 1.13 ‘Take Your Daughter to Work Day’ Recap

March 9, 2008 by Chandra

Recap
Original Air Date: March 4, 2008

As much as it pains me to say it, “Take Your Daughter to Work Day,” almost certainly the series finale, gets my vote as perhaps the worst episode of Carpoolers. It’s too bad the sitcom had to go out with such a weak showing. Then again, saving the not-so-good for last means fans have a longer continuous string of previous well-done episodes to remember fondly.

As the title of the episode states, it’s Take Your Daughter to Work Day at AUBREY’s job, and he brings along his little girl MICHELLE (Guest Star China Anderson). Before he heads to his floor, GRACEN and LAIRD advise him that he’s a superhero in his daughter’s eyes. Therefore, when Aubrey and Michelle get upstairs and she begins talking incessantly about her friend whose father is a heart surgeon and how big his office must be, Aubrey is too embarrassed to let her know that he has no office, just a small and cluttered cubicle.

Instead of revealing the truth, Aubrey takes Michelle into the office of Vice President Mr. Latero (Guest Star Dave Foley), which is across from his cubicle, so she can take a picture to use in her school report. While they’re inside, Michelle notices a picture on the desk of the office’s actual occupant and his family, and like any normal kid, she asks who the people are.

Panicking, Aubrey immediately grabs the framed picture and drops it on the floor, where the glass shatters. He then cuts his hand trying to clean the mess up and hurry his daughter out of the room before his boss arrives. Shaking his wounded hand only causes the blood to splatter all over the white sofa, and when Mr. Latero arrives with his daughter and she sees the blood, she thinks it’s an emergency and releases the fire alarm.

Carpoolers: 1.12 ‘Lost in America’ Recap

March 7, 2008 by Chandra

Recap
Original Air Date: February 26, 2008

This episode gets off to a hilarious start when MARMADUKE, decked out in his Sunday best (his mom LEILA tells him he looks like the president), heads toward the carpooling car one morning while a terrified LAIRD, AUBREY, and DOUGIE instinctively lock the doors to keep him out because he’s too big to fit comfortably. It turns out their instincts were correct because as soon as Marmaduke gets in the car, he takes up half the space. Worse, he gives the guys a Pet Sounds DVD to play that’s exactly what the title says … NOT the Beach Boys album.

GRACEN’s son needs a lift into the city, where he has an appointment at the bank to get a loan. When they arrive, Marmaduke asks his dad to accompany him for moral support as he makes a presentation about starting a lawn mowing service using sheep. The bank representatives immediately whip out the paperwork to approve the loan … as long as Gracen signs over his house as collateral. Gracen, regardless of his eagerness for his 22-year-old son to finally grow up and get out, refuses.

When he reveals his decision to the guys, they all respond that it was Gracen’s duty to support his son. Then Marmaduke hears his parents discussing him later that night, right before he informs them he’s leaving to make his own way in America.

Carpoolers: 1.11 ‘The Recital’ Recap

February 22, 2008 by Chandra

Recap
Original Air Date: February 19, 2008

The guys are in the car with AUBREY driving, DOUGIE in the passenger seat, and GRACEN and LAIRD in the backseat. Aubrey’s grooving and singing along to a tape of his 12-year-old daughter SHAWNA (Guest Star Jay Jay Ellis) playing the piano version of a song called “Milkshake.” Dougie likes the tune, too; but in back, Gracen and Laird are grimacing. When Aubrey reveals Shawna has a recital on Sunday, Dougie volunteers that all of the carpoolers will come, despite the pinches from the backseat to shut him up.

Later, Laird meets Dougie in his office for a dentist-chair chat — he straps Dougie into the chair so he can’t escape — to explain to him what’s so great about their carpooling group: it provides the intimacy of family without the responsibility. In other words, there’s no hanging out together outside of the car rides because that might lead to expectations about other things, such as babysitting pets.

Dougie doesn’t get it, but Laird’s threats of bodily harm convince him to fake a call during the next ride allegedly informing him that he must attend someone’s funeral at the same time as Shawna’s recital. When Aubrey asks who died, Dougie lies again, claiming it was his, Gracen, and Laird’s barber. When Aubrey asks why he’s never heard about their barber before, Dougie adds that they never mentioned him because he was racist.

Spoilers
Poor Aubrey. On the March 4th episode of Carpoolers, “Take Your Daughter to Work Day,” he gets booted from his job after he’s discovered impersonating his boss.

Poor Carpoolers fans, too, because this episode is the 13th and final installment of the sitcom produced to date. Since it’s unlikely that ABC will renew the series for a second season, mark your calendar for this episode and enjoy the gang while you can.

Carpoolers airs Tuesdays on ABC at 9:30pm EST.

Carpoolers: ‘Lost in America’ Spoilers (2-26-08)

February 19, 2008 by Chandra

Spoilers
On “Lost in America,” the February 26th episode of Carpoolers, Marmaduke gets a taste of tough love from his father Gracen when the senior Brooker refuses to pat his son on the head for his latest business scheme, er, venture — cutting lawns with sheep.

Yes, people, sheep. Is there a parent anywhere in the United States that would support their grown child doing something like that for a living?

In any case, ever-crafty Marmaduke manages to find a replacement dad after he moves in with one of his biological father’s carpooling buddies. Guess which one.

Carpoolers airs Tuesdays on ABC at 9:30pm EST.
