According to Jim: Time to Say So Long

June 1, 2009 by Chandra

Larry Joe Campbell, James Belushi, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Kimberly Williams/According to JimTomorrow, June 2, brings the final two fresh episodes of ABC’s long-running sitcom According to Jim. I know that news will make many people insanely happy, but the comedy does have its fans who enjoyed the show during its eight-season run.

The swan song begins at 8pm ET with “Diamonds Are a Ghoul’s Best Friend.” Give it up for Jim, who at least has the common sense to buy his wife Cheryl a lovely diamond necklace for her birthday. The only problem, though, is that, ever cheap, he purchases the jewelry from some lowlife Andy knows and ends up being haunted by the ghost of the dead woman from whence the necklace came. Serves him right.

Following at 8:30pm is the actual series finale “Heaven Opposed to Hell,” which features very nice guest stars Dan Aykroyd, Erik Estrada, and Lee Majors, as well as the return of fan favorite and original regular cast member Kimberly Williams-Paisley.

‘According to Jim’ Returns Double Time

April 14, 2009 by Chandra

Larry Joe Campbell, James Belushi, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Kimberly Williams/According to JimThat’s right, comedy fans. Get ready for more According to Jim, one of America’s most favorite sitcoms in the history of television, judging from its (some say “inexplicable”) longevity.

Jim Belushi & Company resume the show’s eighth season at 8pm ET tonight, and the good times and laughter will continue on Tuesdays throughout May for a whole hour at a time!

That’s right, all you haters. ABC is giving According to Jim back-to-back, double screen time. And, if my math isn’t mistaken, there are a total of 12 episodes remaining in the 18-episode season, as well, which should give fans six nights of pleasure. All I can say is at least the series is better than Bob Saget’s new super-stinker, Surviving Suburbia.

Up today are the fresh episodes “The Ego Boost” and “The Yoga Bear.” The first was directed by series star Belushi, and it features George Lopez alumna Constance Marie as Jim’s former flame Victoria.

Where in the World Is ‘According to Jim’s Kimberly Williams-Paisley?

December 28, 2008 by Chandra

Kimberly Williams-PaisleyConsidering that the series has been on the air for eight seasons — critics be damned! — ABC’s According to Jim has to have more than a few fans who’ve noticed something odd lately.

That’s right: actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley, aka Jim’s wife Cheryl’s sister Dana, a series regular until this season, has gone missing without any satisfying explanation offered. Well, where is she?

Mystery solved by TV Guide, which assures viewers the reason isn’t negative or even mysterious. Apparently, Williams-Paisley just wanted to take a break to hang out with her husband, country music star Brad Paisley, and their 22-month-old son William Huckleberry “Huck” Paisley.

Excellent reason, right? Glad to hear she wasn’t let go or anything.

‘According to Jim’ Hourlong Season Premiere

December 1, 2008 by Chandra

Larry Joe Campbell, James Belushi, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Kimberly Williams/According to JimDon’t forget Jim Belushi et al. fans: The eighth season of ABC’s family sitcom According to Jim kicks off at 9pm EST tomorrow night with a couple of back-to-back episodes.

First up at 9pm is “The Blankie,” during which Jim lays a major guilt trip on his oldest three children when one of the new twin arrivals’ blanket disappears. Jim is pitching in with the infants after Cheryl blows a gasket — or two — doing everything herself.

Longtime viewers know the drill from there. Newbies, that means that after a whole lot of drama, we’ll eventually learn Jim is wrong and everybody else has been victimized by his customary zeal to make others do what he wants.

The hour closes with “The New Best Friend,” which involves lots of reluctant holiday shopping on Jim’s part after Cheryl’s sister and best friend Dana moves away. So, what does Jim do when he realizes he can’t take hanging out with his wife that much? Well, he decides it’s his job to find her a new BFF, STAT. Sounds like a plan.

According to Jim airs Tuesdays on ABC at 9pm EST until the end of the year. The series then moves to Tuesdays at 8pm in 2009.

No Bedrest for the Wicked: On the next-to-last episode of the seventh season (the show has been renewed for an eighth, too), Cheryl does whatever it takes to enjoy a little more me time before she has the twins. [8pm EST/ABC]

The Devil Went Down to Oak Park: Instantly recognizable celebrity interviewer James Lipton (Inside the Actor’s Studio) guests stars as the Devil on the season finale. (What? — Reaper’s Ray Wise wasn’t available?) He arrives in town to make good on a deal made long ago with Jim, who stupidly promised to hand over his fifth child in exchange for a successful relationship with Cheryl. I wonder how Jim’s wife will feel about that when/if she finds out. [8:30pm EST/ABC/Seventh-Season Finale]
