The “Captain” in the title Welcome to the Captain stands not for a person but a renowned apartment building in Hollywood, California, called “El Capitan” originally and later Anglicized to plain old “The Captain.”
When filmmaker Josh Flug (Fran Kranz) decides to call it quits for a while and return to New York, his best fried, accountant Marty Tanner (Chris Klein), convinces him to instead give The Captain a try. There, Josh befriends an assortment of oddball and interesting neighbors, including gossip-loving doorman Jesus (Al Madrigal), know-it-all Uncle Saul Fish (Jeffrey Tambor), aging seductress Charlene Van Ark (Raquel Welch), ditzy wannabe actress Astrid (Valerie Azlynn), and Hope (JoAnna Garcia), an acupuncturist and potential love interest for Josh.
