“The Gang” is always into something funny on the offbeat, oddball FX sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Introduced in the summer of 2005 as one of two new original sitcoms—the other, Starved, disappeared after just one season following unrelenting criticism of its crude eating-disorder fixation—Sunny Philly has not only managed to establish a sizable fan base among casual TV watchers but critics, as well.
The series stars creator Rob McElhenney as Mac, Charlie Day as Charlie, and Glenn Howerton and Kaitlin Olson as twins Dennis and Sweet Dee, respectively, four longtime thirty-something friends who run a bar called Paddy’s together in the title city.
In the second season, film star Danny DeVito joined the cast as the twins’ father Frank, although by the end of that run, the possibility was raised that he might actually be Charlie’s biological dad. Not that it makes much difference either way since all of the main players on Sunny Philly have a similar tendency to get entangled in the most mind-boggling, preposterous, politically incorrect, hilarious predicaments imaginable.
