Greek: 2.1 ‘Brothers and Sisters’ Advance Review
August 26, 2008 by Chandra

When we last saw the young men and women of Cyprus-Rhodes University who live for their sororities and fraternities, they were off on a wild Spring Break vacation at Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. Everyone’s back on campus as the second season opens, and it’s time to continue with the trying, tangled, and occasionally satisfying relationships that characterized the show during its freshman run.
The next big event on the minds of the Greek system members is the 63rd Annual Greek Week Olympiad, a take on the Olympics where the different houses compete against one another for bragging rights in assorted offbeat competitions, some requiring the girls and boys to switch traditional gender roles. As a result, the frat guys wow (or nearly blind) us with their eager displays of team spirit, and we almost get to see the lovely ladies of Zeta Beta Zeta play football in odd pastel-pink uniforms, complete with bulky padding.
As usual, there are darker occurrences to go along with the lighthearted, funny segments. Rusty (Jacob Zachar) and Calvin’s (Paul James) relationship is still on the amends, until a potential scandal resulting from a typical tiff between seemingly eternal rivals Cappie (Scott M. Foster) and Evan (Jake McDorman) threatens to damage their recent truce. Thankfully, an increasingly “looser” Dale (Clark Duke) comes to the rescue … again.
Rebecca (Dilshad Vadsaria) also has a lot of time in the spotlight as she copes with the fallout from her Girls Gone Wild exploits during Spring Break and the return of ZBZ alumna Tegan Walker, played by Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel veteran Charisma Carpenter. Ever dramatic, the scenes with Rebecca and Casey (Spencer Grammer) remain among Greek’s most absorbing.
Even so, it’s not Rebecca who provides the knock-down blow to Casey at the very end of the episode. To find out who manages to achieve that, make sure to watch the second-season premiere “Brothers and Sisters” at 9pm EST. Greek is definitely still going strong.
