The ‘Office’ Spinoff Dead Before Arrival
July 16, 2008 by Chandra
I kid you not.
If you were dreading the reality of having to endure a mini version of NBC’s hit sitcom The Office in the near future, your wishes that the project would implode have reportedly been granted.
Instead of an official spinoff à la Private Practice from Grey’s Anatomy, for example, The Office’s executive producer Greg Daniels is rumored to be working on putting together an entirely new and different show that just might also be set on the job. This new series would star Saturday Night Live veteran Amy Poehler, whose alleged negotiations to join the non-Office spinoff I just wasted a whole bunch of time writing about earlier today.
Why no spinoff? It’s simple: NBC executives wanted to replicate The Office’s success so badly, they jumped the gun on spinning the show off into a second series and moved forward before they had any concrete clue what to do with or on the related show. I actually don’t care whether the show is spun off or not. Please, just make up your darn minds.
Now I’m all Office-d out, so no more news on this series — or its non-spinoff — today.
