The latest word on the Internets is that Saturday Night Live player Amy Poehler may be joining the cast of NBC’s Office spinoff if negotiations work out favorably.
According to reports, all involved are playing hard to get with details about anything under discussion. Still, rumor has it the series will revolve around a well-known star, similar to how the original U.S. series is built around Steve Carell.
Of course, if Poehler, who will have her first child in the fall, makes the jump to a primetime scripted comedy on NBC, the transition would mirror the same journey her former SNL colleague and Baby Mama co-star Tina Fey embarked on when she launched 30 Rock.
I think Poehler would be a fine addition to the spinoff, so this is good news to me. If she comes onboard, she’ll join Aziz Ansari, the only other actor cast on the show to date. Since the series is slated to premiere in early February 2009, though, there’s plenty of time left to fill out the cast.
