Linked Up: ‘Office’ Webisodes, New ‘Scrubs’ Interns, and Other Stuff

The Office

The Futon Critic posts the NBC press release announcing that the second round of Office webisodes, as well as the first round for Heroes, will premiere at the beginning of July. Series cast members appearing online include Brian Baumgartner (Kevin), Oscar Nunez (Oscar), Leslie David Baker (Stanley), and Craig Robinson (Darryl).

Scrubs

TV Guide reports that, à la House, Scrubs is getting some fresh shiny faces to go along with its new shiny network next season, the show’s last. Joining the cast are Aziz Ansari (Human Giant), Betsy Beutler (The Black Donnellys), and Eliza Coupe (Unhitched, The Flight of the Conchords).

I’m not too familiar with any of the newbies but best wishes to them at the new gig all the same.

The Big Bang Theory

Fancast not only interviews Big Bang Theory standout Jim Parsons (Sheldon, the sheltered genius), but the website also posts a slew of very nice photos snapped on-set during the filming of the most recent episode, “The Peanut Reaction.”

Sex and the City Flick
(Theaters Everywhere on May 30)

A Variety reviewer has seen it and he’s not all that impressed:

Best in its small moments, the movie should find receptive gal pals congregating for the mother of all viewing parties, but appeal beyond that core should present New Line with less of a storybook finish than it doubtless would like.

My favorite line, however, could have been written by yours truly, who really pays attention to these kinds of things. It’s refreshing to see that others notice, too. Sadly (or should I say pitifully?), I could also make pretty much the same observation about the forthcoming season’s slate of new comedies.

In reference to cast member Jennifer Hudson:

“The Dreamgirls” star makes more of the sketchy part than she has any right to … while not incidentally representing a demographic break from the show’s largely monochromatic palette.

BONUS: M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening
(Theaters Everywhere on June 13)

Everybody into movies, particularly the horror genre, has been talking about this lately. One of the contributors at Collider posted an anonymous advance review of the upcoming thriller The Happening sent in by a concerned Shyamalan fan. The film stars Mark Wahlberg, and, unfortunately, the unkown writer’s assessment is brutal:

“The Happening” is a terrible, terrible movie. I mean, it’s bad on an epic scale. It’s so bad that I can’t possibly tell you how bad it is without understating the point or making it sound like I’m picking on the film.

And if that’s not enough to cause concern, the reviewer follows up later with:

The most obvious fault in “The Happening” is the acting — in particular Wahlberg’s performance. I’m saying this with no hyperbole, but Wahlberg might very well give the worst performance I’ve ever seen in anything. He’s that bad.… As bad as the rest of the movie is, Wahlberg is the part that the internet is going to eat alive.

Poor Marky Mark — I feel bad for him. M. Night, not so much, though, since his work’s overall quality is ultimately his responsibility alone.

On the other hand, maybe it’s only me, but this kind of commentary just makes me want to see the movie even more. Check out a clip and a couple of trailers at Yahoo! Movies. I already have and, like the mystery critic, I’m not wowed either.
