Kamel was a major part of almost every single episode because Monk relies on Dr. Kroger so much to help stay sane. It's going to be very interesting to see how the writers handle it. They have a while to get everything right, though, since I believe the summer run has already finished filming. Still, it would be unbelievably satisfying if Monk had a breakthrough big enough to get him back on the police force, especially if the next season is the last one, like many have speculated.
