Comedy Talk: Eddie Izzard Makes Sh*t Up with Carson Daly
Hey! Those are Emmy-winning actor and The Riches star Eddie Izzard’s words, not mine.
During his April 4 appearance on Last Call with Carson Daly, Izzard responded that he “makes shit up” when Daly marveled at the extent of his knowledge about all sorts of things, such as the fact that the Saint Patrick of the famous international holiday is actually Welsh.
According to the longtime standup comedian, part of his talent for coming up with answers on the fly is due to his stage experience performing comedy routines. No doubt the skill serves him well portraying con-artist traveler Wayne Malloy on his entertaining FX series, too.
I’m actually kind of surprised how self-effacing Daly comes off during the interview, as well. When he and Izzard begin discussing ever-helpful Wikipedia — an essential outlet for many people who like to make shit up and then see it online — the host remarks that he looked at his own entry, which says “Carson is a tool” and claims he was “raised by a pack of wolves.”
I’ve never heard the second bit before, but I’ve encountered more than a few people calling Daly a tool. It’s charming in a way that he’s aware of it and still can smile about the unconcealed disdain some have for him. Good for Daly.
