C-Spot, A New Comedy Destination

Why settle for comedy shows on just your TV when you can get them all over the place these days? Case in point — Sony Pictures Television recently launched a multi-platform comedy channel called C-Spot that’s available online (AOL Video, Crackle, Hulu, YouTube), on the tube (Sony BRAVIA TVs via BRAVIA Internet Video Link), and on your cellphone (Verizon Wireless’ V CAST Video service). You certainly can’t complain about a lack of viewing options here.
The innovative channel currently offers six original short-form comedy series, many already well-known among online video connoisseurs. They include The Best of Penn Says with magician-comedian and recently ousted Dancing with the Stars hoofer Penn Jillette; standup comic Owen Benjamin’s Gaytown; Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show; Hot, Hot Los Angeles; The Roadents; and The Writers Room with Kevin Pollak. The creative team responsible for the flash-animation series The Roadents has previously been featured on Saturday Night Live’s TV Funhouse.
Fans of this type of video delivery will always have something fresh to watch since Sony states it will update the channel’s content on a daily basis in order to “feed the appetite of digital media users seeking more than just one-off viral videos.” With that goal in mind, the initial 13-week season will premiere a new episode of each of the shows on its specially designated day.
Today, April 4, C-Spot has something special for viewers in the form of internationally celebrated porn star — really! — Ron Jeremy dressed as a hedgehog while making a special movie with Kiko (Kim Evey, pictured above), the host of the YouTube sensation Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show.
GTCMS is officially described as “one part Pee-wee’s Playhouse and one part crazy, unpredictable Japanese talk show.” Still, it manages to score name guests like Adam Arkin (Life, Chicago Hope), Michael O’Keefe (Michael Clayton, Roseanne), and Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Stand By Me). If a talent-infused, oddball show like that isn’t a great way to start off the weekend after five days of job drudgery, I don’t know what is.

Daily C-Spot Lineup
- Mondays: Hot, Hot Los Angeles
- Tuesdays: The Writers Room
- Wednesdays: Gaytown
- Thursdays: The Roadents
- Fridays: Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show
- Weekends: The Best of Penn Says
The Best of Penn Says
Whether he is riffing on the presidential race; reluctantly defending an anti-gay protest as a First Amendment right; or ranting on the latest celebrity train wreck, Penn Jillette isn’t afraid to share his outspoken, unique point-of-view and unwavering opinions on the hottest, most current and sensitive topics. Penn turns the cameras on whenever and wherever inspiration hits him — maybe backstage at his show in Vegas, in a famous friend’s living room, on the road, or wherever else Penn may find himself that day. The immediacy of his posts will allow Penn to tackle events as they happen, and nothing is off-limits.
Gaytown
Owen Benjamin stars as a straight man living in Gaytown, a place where men wear fannypacks and adorn their Yorkies with fancy dog sweaters, and women drive trucks and pour concrete. The series follows Owen’s quest to work up the courage to come out of the closet to Pierce, his fake boyfriend; Lina, the woman he is secretly in love with; and even his dad, the rhinestone king of Gaytown.
Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show
One part Pee Wee’s Playhouse and one part crazy, unpredictable Japanese talk show, this series is truly the definition of lost in translation. The show’s host, Kiko, bewilders and abuses her guests, with the help of her sidekicks Panda and Unicow (a unicorn cow).
Hot, Hot Los Angeles
A sardonic take-off of soapy teen dramas and shows that glamorize the excesses of the rich and not so famous, the series follows the scandalous lives of two of the most popular guys in town, Pip and Victor. The frenemies battle for supremacy and the hearts of the same girls, all while overindulging in the best L.A. has to offer.
The Roadents
Best described as The Odd Couple meets Easy Rider for the YouTube generation, this 2D and 3D animated-hybrid, improvisational comedy series centers on two guinea pigs, Pee Pee and Buttercup, that hit the road in a 1983 Winnebago.
The Writers Room
A single camera comedy, this series takes a satirical look at the inner workings of a late-night talk show hosted by actor and comedian Kevin Pollak. With long hours and cramped quarters acting as the glue that holds this dysfunctional group together, the series explores the ludicrous situations and conversations that arise when a roomful of neurotic writers work to please their overbearing and tyrannical boss.
