Hockey Legend Willie O’Ree Plus Kevin Weekes on ‘Everybody Hates Chris’
Tonight at 8pm EST, 72-year-old ice hockey legend Willie O’Ree will guest star on Everybody Hates Chris.
O’Ree, a black Canadian from New Brunswick, broke the color barrier in the National Hockey League on January 18, 1958, when he debuted as a winger with the Boston Bruins in a game against the Montreal Canadiens.
In the forthcoming episode “Everybody Hates Gretzky,” Chris skips school and accompanies his younger brother Drew to Long Island to track down Drew’s idol Wayne Gretzky at an Edmonton Oilers game.
On the way, the two siblings get lost and ask O’Ree’s character for directions. The older man obliges and gives them a few pertinent details about ice hockey history, as well. New Jersey Devils goaltender Kevin Weekes, also a black Canadian, has a speaking part in the same scene.
Everybody Hates Chris airs Sundays on The CW at 8pm EST, and viewers can catch a repeat of “Everybody Hates Gretzky” next Sunday, April 6, at 5pm.
