Original Air Date: February 13, 2008

As MIA arrives at work, she fields phone calls from all of her fellow mafiettes, who repeatedly ask if she’s okay. Her assistant even gives her a muffin to make her feel better, before her boss CLIVE comes in and tosses the most recent edition of the newspaper on her desk. The huge headline across the front page notes that JACK has just been named publisher at rival company Fairgate Communications.

It looks like the former couple is now back in professional competition. To rub salt in the wound, later that night while she’s hanging out with CAITLIN — who’s still trying to wrap her head around the fact that her girlfriend ALICIA is pregnant — and watching TV, Mia recognizes Jack’s new girlfriend LIZ wearing her Alexander McQueen scarf during a newscast. Mia vows to get it back.

Things aren’t going much better for JULIET, whose hopes that her divorce from DAVIS might be simple and fair are quickly dashed. During their mediation, his lawyer makes it clear that not only does Davis expect “man-imony” — monthly support from Juliet since he backtracked his career and earning potential to fast-track hers — but all legal fees and anything else he wants from their former joint household. Juliet — who wants an even split of their money, custody of their daughter, and their apartment — arrives home that night to find Davis taking anything and everything he wants, including the Aston Martin he gave her as a gift.

Trouble is on the table for ZOE, as well, who learns at work from her boss HENRY GORHAM that she and her colleague CLAYTON must woo billionaire MAXWELL TATE, who’s doing a humanitarian Bill Gates thing at the moment by establishing a $500 million foundation to charter schools. The plan is to lure him away from his current investment company, Manhattan Trust, and gain dibs on his future investment business.

The strategy sounds easy enough, until Clayton makes it clear that he should take the lead on the assignment because Tate will relate to him, a fellow man, better. Clayton also believes mommy Zoe wouldn’t be able to handle the long work hours required by the promotion to Senior Managing Director that will likely be given to the person who succeeds in snagging Tate.

After lunch, where Juliet laments how the lawyers are making her divorce more difficult and Mia reveals she must retrieve a sex tape she made with Jack (all of the mafiettes have made sex tapes, except for Caitlin), it’s time for a sonogram with Alicia and Caitlin. Caitlin seems duly impressed seeing the baby and hearing its heartbeat, until Alicia’s ex OLIVIA walks through the door and announces the baby is her, too. To be fair, Alicia did call her about the appointment.

Mia meets Jack in a bar to inform him she saw his telepromptress girlfriend wearing her scarf on TV, and she wants it back. She also asks for the sex tape, but since Jack doesn’t know where it is — Mia forgot that she hid it so the housekeeper wouldn’t find it — he gives her permission to drop by his apartment the next day and look for it. After all, she does still have a key.

Zoe and Clayton meet with billionaire Maxwell Tate (played by Dan Butler, Frasier’s Bulldog, in very nice casting), where it becomes obvious that his wife CYNTHIA has a great deal of influence on his business dealings. If Zoe’s firm manages to acquire Tate as a client, she and Cynthia will be interacting a lot, a good thing since Tate’s spouse sees through Clayton’s repeated attempts to downplay Zoe’s competence. Moreover, Cynthia appreciates what it must have taken for Zoe to get so far in her career in a male-dominated field.

Meanwhile, Caitlin accompanies Mia to Jack’s apartment, where they find two DVDs hidden behind the television, both with Mia’s name on them. One is the sex tape and the other a recording of a birthday party thrown for Mia. As they watch a scene from the second DVD, both women realize that Jack isn’t all bad. Unfortunately, his girlfriend Liz shows up about then and reveals her intention of creating a rivalry with Mia, which is definitely not a good move because Mia and her friends are all kinds of into the cat-scratching game.

At work during a meeting, Juliet’s assistant informs her that Davis has had a heart attack. Juliet rushes to the hospital, where she finds CILLA, who was with her husband when the attack occurred. After Davis regains consciousness and sees Juliet waiting, worried, he admits he feels bad about how he’s been behaving, and he promises to return everything he took from the apartment.

DR. BYRNE, a top cardiologist that Cilla called in, reports then that Davis had a panic attack due to heightened anxiety, not a heart attack. But after Juliet is served with legal papers the next day requesting her to vacate the apartment, she tracks Davis down and learns his lawyer has once again convinced him that she’s a bitter, conniving wife trying to take advantage of him during his weak moments.

Caitlin and Olivia also meet, and Alicia’s ex wastes no time letting Caitlin know that she’s not a good role model because of her uncertainty about her sexuality. The two pretend to hit it off for Alicia’s sake, but Olivia doesn’t want Caitlin involved in the life of Alicia’s baby.

Elsewhere, Zoe and Clayton take billionaire Tate to a “glorified whorehouse,” as Zoe calls it, where Zoe consistently makes suggestions that Tate likes because they’re exactly what is wife would propose. The mood is spoiled, however, when Clayton indicates the men can spend time with the female workers in apartments upstairs; in other words, patrons can also have sex with them, in addition to the foot rubs they give freely downstairs.

Cynthia calls right about then to let Maxwell know she’s heading over because the opera finished early. She doesn’t realize they’re not at a restaurant, and Maxwell hands a reluctant Zoe the phone to come up with a lie that will keep Cynthia away. Zoe complies, telling the other woman that they’re just about to get in their cars to leave, and she feels terrible as the men head upstairs with the prostitutes, leaving her alone downstairs.

Mia is at home shredding her Alexander McQueen scarf when Jack shows up with the birthday DVD. The couple starts kissing before he’s barely through the door, and they end up spending the night together. The next morning, all seems rosy initially as they discuss getting back together. But, Jack lets it slip that he’s ready to reconcile because he has a good job now, which leads Mia to realize that’s the only reason he’s supposedly come to his senses — he can only imagine himself with her if he’s on the same professional level or above. That’s not good enough, and Mia finally ends their relationship once and for all by returning the engagement ring she had been holding on to in case Jack ever came back.

At Gorham Sutter, Zoe arrives at a party to learn that Clayton has indeed been promoted to Senior Managing Director, although she was the one responsible for the firm acquiring Maxwell Tate’s business when she sold out her integrity. Pissed, Zoe confronts Henry Gorham and Clayton and tells them point blank that she realizes the firm only promotes white men. When Gorham insinuates that she’s hurting her own chances of rising eventually by acing so irate in public, Zoe quits.

Caitlin, now psyched about becoming a parent, stops by Alicia’s apartment lugging several shopping bags full of toys and items for the baby. Alicia has decided that she’s going to raise her child with Olivia, however, and she breaks the news to Caitlin, who’s heartbroken. Juliet is feeling much better in her limo, though, as she watches a towing company retrieve her Aston Martin while a furious Davis tries to convince a cop that the car is his, despite the fact that it’s in Juliet’s name.

Later, the mafiettes meet to mull over their disastrous day while eating fudge and drinking Vodka (Ugh!).
