Molly Shannon and Selma Blair are ‘Kath & Kim’

On Wednesday, NBC entertainment honcho Ben Silverman announced the network’s plans to send the American adaptation of the hit Australian comedy series Kath & Kim directly to production for an initial order of six episodes.
The show will star super successful actresses Molly Shannon (Saturday Night Live, Evan Almighty, Year of the Dog) and Selma Blair (Hellboy franchise; Legally Blonde; Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane) in the title roles. This news is a big deal not only for fans of the two entertainers, but also because by entering the production process immediately, the series will bypass the laborious (and costly) pilot process to reach television screens worldwide much sooner.
According to NBC, Kath & Kim provides “a look into the minutiae of middle-class suburbia that digs deep into the daily lives of Kath [Shannon], a cheerful, forty-something divorcee, and her self-absorbed daughter, Kim [Blair]. It’s the love and hate, push and pull, of the dysfunctional relationship only a mother and daughter could share.”
Finally, something I can sort of relate to personally — I’m excited already!
Interesting Fact: Although Shannon and Blair will play mother and daughter, in real life, Shannon (born September 16, 1964) is only eight years older than Blair (born June 23, 1972). Isn’t acting a hoot?
