And the 65th Golden Globe Awards Comedy Winners Are…

Last night’s broadcast of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards definitely wasn’t what it’s been in years gone by, not to say that past shows were all that great anyway.
When is the last time you sat through a three-hour televised awards ceremony that was only supposed to be two and didn’t roll your eyes wondering why so much of what was happening seemed unnecessary? Exactly. In that respect, Sunday night’s one-hour Globes non-fest was a sweet relief.
The lack of miles of red carpet and dazzling celebrities did take a huge toll, however. Reports indicate that the non-WGA-supported telecast was hit particularly hard in the ratings department, resulting in a decline among viewers that amounted to a whopping two-thirds fewer people watching.
Confession: I was one of those who totally tuned out. But, thanks to the Golden Globes website, I can pass on that the following nominees in comedy categories won one of those cute little statuettes … even if no awards actually passed hands during the telecast.
Aside from Fox Mulder, I mean David Duchovny, who scored a Best Actor win for his Showtime series Californication, and perhaps Queen Latifah, who took top honors for Best Mini-Series Actress, there weren’t any surprises from my vantage point. That’s yet another reason why I don’t feel bad about not having watched.
Winners are in bold with an asterisk.

No surprises there. It’s interesting how networks have to compete with cable channels like HBO with a huge budget, who sink millions into shows like Rome. You’d think almost any cable show would be a shoe-in if it’s eligible.
