‘Office’ Star Rainn Wilson Hosting 2008 Spirit Awards
The Writers Guild of America is definitely playing hardball when it comes to granting waivers for various organizations to use writers and archival clips for the purpose of producing the familiar cluster of annual awards shows that air around the beginning of the New Year.
Amid all the recent denials, however, there have been a few cases of access granted. One was the decision last week to allow Office fan favorite and WGA member Rainn Wilson, who plays oddball paper salesman Dwight Schrute, to both host and write material for Film Independent’s forthcoming 2008 Spirit Awards. As a result, the show will continue production as planned for its February 23 broadcast on the Independent Film Channel just one day before the Academy Awards.
Congrats to Wilson for a rare gig during these phenomenally boring TV times.
