‘Samantha Who?’ Star Christina Applegate Bares All for PETA
…Not!
Okay. Correct me if I’m wrong or blind or whatever, but is the first thought you have after looking at the picture immediately below of Samantha Who?’s Christina Applegate along the lines of, “OMG! WTF! That Kelly Bundy gal ain’t got a stitch on!!! She’s butt-naked on the internets!!!”
That’s not what I get at all either. Yet, upon finding a “news” item on the Internet Movie Database website enticing viewers with the suggestive revelation that Applegate “wears nothing but a pair of festive gloves, a necklace and a smile in the revealing new Fur: Get MeNot [sic] campaign,” I raced around the virtual highways looking for a specimen of the allegedly saucy, presumably Playboy-caliber picture in question.
What an utter disappointment, then, to find the completely benign, totally non-risqué, and anything but revealing image above instead. Is this the kind of over-the-top language that news outlets have to rely on these days to get people to read their articles? How sad.
In any case, the photograph comes from a holiday advertising campaign for the organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) called Fur: Get Me Not [not “Fur: Get MeNot”—IMDb’s news source World Entertainment News Network also obviously needs a better proofreader, in addition to an editor capable of controlling newswriters’ use of excessively provocative language].
Moreover, the accompanying slogan “Cross cruelty off your shopping list by avoiding fur coats, collars, and cuffs (unless it’s fake of course)” is more than just a paid-for come-on. It reflects the personal philosophy of Applegate, who’s a longtime vegetarian and a lifelong animal lover.
The campaign includes an exclusive interview with the popular actress to clarify why she agreed to participate. In it, she reveals numerous tidbits, including the facts that she’s only had one fur coat in her life and that she’s been a vegetarian since a long ago day on the set of her breakthrough TV series Married with Children when she was served meat that was still bloody.
