Writers Strike Update: Comedy Shows’ Remaining Episodes

Thanks to TV Guide, television fans now have an up-to-date summary of how many episodes certain series have remaining. After those installments all air, the shows in question will run out of fresh material due to the current writers strike and the resulting lack of individuals available to complete more scripts.
Here’s how comedies stack up, which is another way of saying here’s how long you have before you should start mourning.
- 30 Rock: Ten episodes will be produced. Five episodes have aired, so there are FIVE left.
- Aliens in America: Seventeen episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are TEN left.
- Back to You: Nine episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are THREE left.
- Carpoolers: Thirteen episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are SEVEN left.
- Cavemen: Thirteen episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are SEVEN left.
- Chuck: Thirteen episodes will be produced. Eight episodes have aired, so there are FIVE left.
- Desperate Housewives: Ten episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are THREE left. [I know. I don’t cover this one. But, technically, it’s a dramedy like Chuck and Reaper. I’m sad to see so few episodes left, especially after what Gaby and Carlos did to Victor last Sunday.]
- Dirty Sexy Money: Eleven episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are FIVE left. [Ditto, except for the Gaby-Carlos-Victor part.]
- Greek: Eight new episodes will be produced. None have aired yet, so there are EIGHT left.
- Jericho: Seven episodes will be produced. None have aired yet, so there are SEVEN episodes left. [Had to throw this one in, too, since I’m nuts for Jericho. The midseason series was only scheduled to have seven installments in the first place, so we’re good … at least until CBS announces whether or not there’ll be a Season Three (and they know what’s gonna happen if there’s not).]
- Men in Trees: Nineteen episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are THIRTEEN left. [Another dramedy, this time with great stats for its fans. It now looks like ABC’s decision to cut the first season short and stockpile the last few episodes to tack on at the beginning of a second season wasn’t so dumb after all.]
- The Office: Twelve half-hour episodes will be produced. Eleven half-hour episodes have aired, so there is ONE half-hour episode left. [Don your black attire and get out your hankies, worker bees. That ONE episode airs tomorrow night.]
- Pushing Daisies: Nine episodes will be produced. Five episodes have aired, so there are FOUR left. [Do Daisies fans cry technicolor tears?]
- Reaper: Ten to 12 episodes will be produced. Eight episodes have aired, so there are TWO to FOUR left.
- Samantha Who?: Twelve episodes will be produced. Five episodes have aired, so there are SEVEN left.
- Scrubs: Eleven episodes will be produced. Three episodes have aired, so there are EIGHT left.
- Ugly Betty: Twelve or 13 episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are FIVE to SIX left.
There you have it. The situation is (near) dire for some shows (Desperate Housewives, The Office, Reaper), but much better than expected for others (Aliens in America, Men in Trees, Scrubs).
More updates will come as news develops.
