Congratulations to ‘The Big Bang Theory’!

Nice going to the cast of CBS’ newest hit sitcom, The Big Bang Theory. In addition to sophomore military drama The Unit, a show whose popularity I simply cannot and will never understand, the Eye Network has decided to give a full-season pickup to the rookie “Two Braniacs and a Babe” comedy.
Industry publication Broadcasting & Cable clarified why Big Bang has provided a big boost to CBS’ signature Monday-night sitcom lineup.
Big Bang stepped right into the network’s successful Monday-night comedy block, averaging a 3.6 rating in adults 18-49 and nearly 9 million viewers. In its first season, it is also building on its How I Met Your Mother lead-in by 9% in the demo and 10% in viewers.
In case all of that statistical speak is not your thing, the translation essentially means that The Big Bang Theory is doing better ratings-wise than How I Met Your Mother, a series that has two acclaimed seasons on it.
Only three freshmen series have received a coveted order for a full season thus far this fall: The CW’s Gossip Girl, which was first on October 9, and today both The Big Bang Theory and ABC’s near shoo-in since its conception, Private Practice.
Let’s hear it for the lone sitcom among the lucky shows picked up!
