‘How I Met Your Mother’ Third-Season Premiere: Wait For It…

by Chandra on September 24th, 2007

How I Met Your Mother
I’m one of the many, many fans who are really, really psyched about the start this fall of CBS’ most successful underpromoted series yet, How I Met Your Mother, which opens its third season tonight at 8pm EST. The second season ended with Lily (Alyson Hannigan) and Marshall (Jason Segel) tying the knot at last, and Robin (Cobie Smulders) and Ted (Josh Radnor) breaking up.

The beginning of the third season finds Robin and Ted clearly apart yet still focused on one another all the same. As a result, Ted seems just a bit too concerned about his former girlfriend’s latest hookup, a gorgeous Latin lover named Gael (played by Grammy winner Enrique Iglesias, who sings some stuff). In response, Ted hits the streets with resident man about town Barney (Neil Patrick Harris, who was totally robbed of his Comedy Supporting Actor Emmy earlier this month) and makes his own lust connection with a hardcore party girl named Amy (played by pop singer-actress Mandy Moore, who apparently doesn’t sing any stuff).

Fans can also expect to finally get a glimpse of the titular mother this season—the premiere actually alludes to her in a brief segment concerning a yellow umbrella—whether or not Ted realizes who she is. He’ll be keeping pretty busy, you see, while getting “acquainted” with guest stars Moore, Busy Philipps, and Danica McKellar.

According to Zap2it, audience members should also stay tuned until the very end of tonight’s installment in order to learn details about a “website and a momentous event for November” (how intriguing…). And that’s not even among the many other developments that devotees have to look forward to this season.

Standout moments include a debate on the logistics of sex on a windsurfing board, a string of reactions to Ted’s break-up beard and an unexpected tattoo. And, as is often the case with “HIMYM,” the best lines go to Barney, including his attempts to entice Ted out on the town for a date with two circus performers with the come-on, “We are gonna get Cirque du So-Laid.”

Get in the mood for the third season by taking a look at the following funny promo featuring Mother’s cast members in CSI mode; it’s vintage “HIMYM” cute.
