On Saturday, September 8, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences held the 2007 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium. The annual event, which honors such efforts as casting and guest-star appearances, is a companion to this Sunday’s more well-known yearly Primetime Emmy Awards. Premium cable’s HBO led the winners, with a total of 15 victories for such lauded programs as the original movie Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee and the canceled series Rome and Deadwood.

Comedy didn’t fare so badly either after yielding the following 7 wins for the genre, including Monk guest star Stanley Tucci, a longtime collaborator of the crime dramedies’ signature actor Tony Shalhoub (I recommend the 1996 feature flick Big Night to see them in action together), and 30 Rock visitor Elaine Stritch, the 82-year-old living legend who wowed audiences in the first-season finale as Jack’s (Alec Baldwin) very funny mom Colleen.

The 2007 Comedy Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Winners are…

Outstanding Animated Program (Programming Less Than One Hour)

  • “Make Love, Not Warcraft,” South Park (Comedy Central)

Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series

  • Libby Goldstein and Junie Lowry Johnson, Ugly Betty (ABC)

Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series

  • Stanley Tucci as David Ruskin, Monk (USA)

Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series

  • Elaine Stritch as Colleen Donaghy, 30 Rock (NBC)

Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series

  • David Rogers and Dean Holland for “The Job,” The Office (NBC)

Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half Hour) and Animation

  • “One Day in the Valley,” Entourage (HBO)

And last but definitely not least:

Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics
