Double Oscar Winner Dianne Wiest Added to ‘The Return of Jezebel James’

Fox announced today that veteran actress Dianne Wiest, a two-time Best Supporting Actress Academy Award winner for the Woody Allen flicks Hannah and Her Sisters (1987) and Bullets Over Broadway (1995), has been cast in the network’s rookie midseason sitcom The Return of Jezebel James. Wiest is scheduled to portray the mother of the series’ two central characters, Sarah (Parker Posey of Boston Legal) and Coco (Lauren Ambrose of Six Feet Under) Tompkins, on a recurring basis.
While many may best remember Wiest for the aforementioned movies and other film work, I recall her more for her performance as Jason Patric and Corey Haim’s mother in the oldie-but-goodie vampire flick The Lost Boys, which also featured 24 star Kiefer Sutherland and former Still Standing actress Jami Gertz, as well as her regular role as Nora Lewin, the only female District Attorney ever in the history of the Law & Order franchise.
The Return of Jezebel James is about two sisters who have nothing in common, including a relationship with each other, until the youngest (Ambrose) considers carrying a child to term for her barren older sister (Posey), a successful children’s book editor. The tentative premiere date for the series—which was created by Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino—is currently January 30, 2008.
