‘The Bill Engvall Show’ First-Season Finale Tonight
And I hereby give the award for Best Title of the Week to “Go Ahead, See If I Karaoke,” the eighth and final season-one episode of TBS’ new sitcom The Bill Engvall Show, which airs tonight at 9pm EST. If you’ve been following along since the series’ July 17 debut, you know that it stars the titular Bill Engvall, he of the infamously, well, blue-collar Blue Collar Comedy Tour group. Other members of that merry band of unpretentious comics include Jeff Foxworthy, Ron White, and Larry the Cable Guy, of course.
In the first-season finale of Engvall’s latest comedy project—which he co-created and co-wrote, by the way—his family counselor character Bill Pearson is saddled with a drunk wife (Nancy Travis) during a dinner date with friends, not to mention a daughter (Jennifer Lawrence) who decides to hook up with an older guy and a son (Skyler Gisondo) momentarily obsessed with boa constrictor eggs (!).
There’s no official word yet on whether the series will get renewed for a second season. But, if it were up to the users and reviewers over at Metacritic, whose “enthusiasm” for the series ranges from middling to piddling, the answer would be a loud, emphatic, “Oh, please, no.” I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
The Bill Engvall Show also stars Graham Patrick Martin (Law & Order: Criminal Intent) as Trent Pearson, Steve Hytner (Roswell) as Bob Spoonerman, and Tim Meadows (Saturday Night Live) as Paul DuFrayne.
